I was in Contra Costa Collectible Firearms in Walnut Creek last Saturday and got to see a 38/44 heavy duty (4 in barrel). Great condition, original gold box, tight lockup...they hadn't priced it last weekend but I called back earlier this week and they were asking $900.

The gun did have a Tyler T-grip installed, and it had blueing wear consistent with it being somebody's duty gun. In...like...1955 or so.

Also, those guys have a M28 Highway Patrolman for $600, condition as described in my previous post. Not sure if it's a -nodash, -1, or -2.

cheers,

Wow, that's a lot of money for a glorified Model 10.

Yeah, the box alone is worth $100 to $150, But you have to ask yourself, when was the last time you saw a 38/44?

And in fact I think this was the first time I'd had my hands on one. As soon as I picked it up, I wanted it. But, after doing some research, it would appear that this particular model has slipped into the realm where shooting it might actually make a Smith collector cry...

Then you won't want to find out what I use mine for!

I collect S&W revolvers, every week I take a different one to the range to blow the cobwebs out of it... Then they get cleaned and put in the safe.... Till the next time...

It sure gets some of the guys at the range excited when I shoot a 38/44 outdoorsman or old K38 Masterpiece…

But thinking back, were the 38/44 revolvers recessed? I don't recall... I guess I could open the safe up and check...

The 38/44's were pinned and not recessed. The only non magnums to be recessed were the .22 Rim Fires

I guess the increase in body temp for me will depend on what kind of 38/44 it is. If it was model marked then I would definitely be feverish.
