I would love to go, of course I have a big comfortable vehicle. Why do you ask?

Harbinger and I went last year. Yeah, it's one hell of a trek, but oh did the squirrel zombie blood fly!

We're going again this year. It's March 24th.

The short of it, for those of you who don't know, is the CA hippies banned the famers from using poison to control the huge squirrel problem they have. Of course the hippies didn't provide the farmers with an alternate solution, so the Chamber of Commerce came up with an idea. Once per year, when the crops are at their shortest, squirrel hunters from all over the world are invited to make their way to Surprise Valley and kill as many squirrels as possible. This is the 16th Annual Squirrel Roundup.

Gawd I remember that country up there.

I had relatives in Lakeview, OR and we'd go thru Modoc Cty to get there. We'd sometimes eat at the Brass Rail in Alturas (is it still there? Wonderful place).

(The not-far-away town of Adin, CA is named for a distant relative (Adin McDowell) of an uncle-by-marriage, Adin Bonner.)

They might have to push back the date as there is still over a foot of snow on the ground.

The shoot is on regardless of weather and snow conditions. I don't think they have ever postponed dates. Keep in mind that you also need to have owners permission to shoot on their fields.

I'm going to have to take a raincheck as I'm currently out of town. Gotta fight this pesky war and all ;)

Have fun, enjoy the slaughter and I'll be there next year

According to the Chamber of Commerce, you are responsible to find a location to shoot. Unless you know someone, you'll need to whip out the white pages and become a telemarketer pushing free varminting service :D
