Update: This is a model 557: it isn't a bolt coming through, but a thumb nut... Sorry for posting the wrong pic, everyone.

I recently moved this Eotech forward on my rail. Trouble is; my left index knuckle scrapes against the mounting nut when operating my charging handle.
Has anyone swapped this mounting nut with a smaller diameter one? How about anyone ever been able to successfully reverse the hardware (so this nut tightens up from the opposite side)?

I can't figure how to even remove this nut... It just free rotates past a certain point.

Email L-3 and see if they will send you the recessed nut.

Ask them for the Nut that is tightened by an allen wrench... That's what I got... no problems

Ummm... look in the box your Eotech came with. The allen wrench bolt should be in there.

L3 communications is the manufacturer of Eotech sights. Did you buy the sight new? It would have came with an allen head screw that you can use instead of the thumb screw.

I don't have the same model that the OP pictured, but I didn't get a different nut/bolt with mine. Is that some recent change?

L3 is the maker of eotech, and I agree with some of the folks, email them and ask

I'm guessing SCAR or ACR. I skinned my knuckle(actually managed to draw blood, but they wouldn't give it to me for free :( )in a shop when I asked them to hand me a SCAR and eotech so I could see what the clearance was like between the CH and the optic. Personally I think it's one of the weakest parts of the design of those rifles since it can cause clearance problems with some accessories.

Odd. All of mine came with an allen wrench and the allen head screw installed, and the larger, finger-tightenable screw in the box with it. I would call them, or just get the after-market ones. They work well enough.

According to Eotech support: my model doesn't have an option for the thumbscrew or allen bolt. So, I'll just move it back to the rear position on the rail. Shame really, as I was hoping to get a fts magnifier.

Is there a trick to removing the nut all the way? Oh, this is on an AUG.

I have a 512 Rev F and it came with a finger tight type with a slot for a standard screw driver/coin to tighten. But mine doesnt stick out like yours does.....that would be annoying.

Mine looks like this:

I agree, mine came with both

According to Eotech; only some models come with optional mounting bolts. The rest come "As Is".

For those who hate this feature, you could consider the Eotech 553 which uses quick release levers. Meaning there is no nut to tighten at all to catch your hand. I have a 553 and a 557, love them both.
