Does anyone know if theres a wait list or if they're taking pre-orders yet? I emailed Harlan, and havent heard back yet.

This was a hot topic on BARF a while back, a new retro A1 lower, with plain rollmarks, no A2 reinforcements, "SAFE-SEMI" markings, etc. Combined with an A1 upper with pencil barrel and triangular handguards, A1 stock and grip, an M7 bayonet, and finished in the early Colt grey, this would be the perfect Vietnam era M16A1 clone.

Stag was rumored to have been interested in taking on the project but nothing ever came of it, so Nodak stepped up to the plate.

Shouldn't there be no 'fence' for it to be a true retro build?

Personally I've thought about taking any brand AR lower, blasting off the anodizing with corn husk/almond shell, throwing it up in the mill, taking off the fence, and then getting it reanodized. Outside of that, most people wouldn't be able to tell the difference between the two so it would be close enough.

Just a thought.

no, it's correct for an A1 receiver

The original M16's were slab sided-no fence. M16A1's had the fence.

I guess it would all depend on how "retro" you want to go.

Ok, so aside from the auto sear pin hole, what's the difference between the M16A1 receiver and an AR-15 receiver?

He's an industry partner on ARFcom. Did you try posting in his thread over there?

I was looking into a slabside retro build a while back. If anyone is interested in a slab side. tacticsllc.com makes them. I read people didn't like the logo or the website name on the lower but it's the only slabside I know of that is a oll. http://www.tacticsllc.com/

No, but I did finally get a response today. Theres no waiting list yet, but he said to periodically check the NDS website for updates.

You can use full fence lowers to build a Colt 604 USAF clone. No foreward assist, all the early features, either 3 prong or birdcage. I have 2 604 clones right now. I'm waiting for NDS's slabside to build a 602 out of one of them.

Anyone care to answer my question, I still can't figure it out looking at the pictures in the link provided.

There are differences between Colt and other lowers. AR15 Colt lowers will have large pin holes and sear blocks. M16 Colt and all other lowers use small pin holes and don't have sear blocks.
