I live about 37 miles: 14 2-lane and the rest freeway- from work. Any thoughts on this as a "get home bag?"

Upside is I have one. Downside is I look like a monkey f...ing a football riding it... But it's pretty quiet, and can go anywhere.

I think a bike has to be something like 250cc to be on the freeway but hey, if there was a disaster or something you could pop that thing out of your trunk, fold up the bars and get around just about anything.

the ones in the pic are restored... mine is like a '69. I'm not worried about the legality (on the freeway,) If SHTF, I think I could get home a lot quicker if I abandoned the Suburban and hopped on the Mini-trail...better than 50 mpg!

OMG I love honda trail bikes! I had the opportunity to purchase two (one running) up in Oregon at a yard sale for $100. My mother had filled up my truck with so much stuff from her sister and yard sales I didn't have room to bring them back, I'm still kicking myself for not getting them and storing both at a relatives house till I could get back.

I picked up a damaged zuma (now fixed) for next to nothing. It will go 43mph with 2 people and get 100mpg.

I've seen that pic. Its from an outfit in Texas I think that sells the Chinese knock-off z-50 kits?

Original Honda's are hard to find, but are bullet-proof. However, the modern copies I hear are not so good with reliability and parts supply is spoty. The knock-offs I hear are imported as kits for you to build as they don't meet some sort of DOT standard. Before consideration, I'd find out if CA will allow you to register for the street or green sticker for off-road. Just my 2 cents.

EZ fix for monkey/football problem. The top tube is just that, a tube. Cut and lengthen tube. Be easy on yourself.

Honestly, gents, the "legality" of it never crossed my mind. I was thinking that it would take up a pretty insignificant amount of space in the back of my Suburban, and would give me alternative transportation should the freeways get impassible in a SHTF situation. I expect (and hope!) the police would be just a little too busy to ticket me for riding a minibike...
