Thanks.

In order to be CA legal, it will need a magazine lock + 10 round magazine and will need to have it's OAL increased by about 2".

IMO...
Century Arms AK-74 parts kit with US made reciever & US made non-chromelined barrel + K-VAR "AKU-94" bullpup kit = pass

During the 1990s, K-VAR designed and made the "AKU-94" bullpup kit.
It did not sell very well. It had overheating issues and a crappy trigger system.
K-VAR then sold it to Century Arms.
Century Arms sells it as a kit (for $100-150 less than what K-VAR was selling them for) and as a complete firearm using AK parts kits with US made recievers & barrels.
The bullpup still has the crappy trigger system and overheating issues, but is now made with lower quality control than the original K-VAR ones (one of the reasons for the cheaper prices).

Thanks for the detail! All those issues kind of take the shine off an otherwise great idea.

but if you put a fake supressor on it, it would be long enough.

which would make it longer and thus defeat the purpose of having a bully

That is true, and I'm aware of that, but we are in CA. So, we have to work with the parameters that we're dealt with. It still will be cool looking.:D

If you think they look cool, go watch the movie "Soldier" (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0120157/).
They used those bullpup kits on full-auto RPKs to make them look like futuristic rifles.
