OK, I have a few questions. What is the basic price range for a complete, CA legal AR-15 type rifle? I am looking for something basic, meaning that I don't need a $3,000 upper and a wazoo $2,000 lower. Basic shooter with a bullet button.

Any suggestions on where to purchase? Thanks in advance.

You can do a nice shooter for under $1000. If you are really frugal and buy used you can get a good shooter for a very good price.

You can pay $860 for a fully assembled stag ready to go. After dros and typical FFL feels you are looking at $925, no tax and almost nothing for shipping.

I managed to build my carbinefor under $700, but I got a couple of good deals on parts. (My target AR is $1500 + an eventual new trigger.) I actually like my Saiga 7.62x39 much more than my AR15 carbine, and the Saiga was something like $350 out the door (DROS, etc) with two mags. Unlike with my AR, I don't mind using Wolf with the Saiga.

Problem with the Saiga is that it will only take 10 round mags. Aside from that, it seems to function like a gripless AK. The first time I took the Saiga out, I spent about $100 on ammo. YMMV, but I'm nuts about the Saiga. I'm thinking of getting another in .308.

My first two ar's were under $800. The first was $760 which included a new DPMS upper and used complete Mega lower. The 2nd one was $795 with a new upper, new lower, RRA 2nd stage lpk, nice stock.

sounds like a good deal if you do not want to deal with putting it together yourself and have stag do it and chris to make it legal

I put mine together for $830 and it shoots like a champ. I paid a fair bit for my DSA OLL. $219 to be exact, but I didn't want to go through the whole FFL hassle. I purchased my DPMS lower parts kit, DPMS complete upper, and Knights stock from MidwayUSA.com. They usually have good deals on their website.

Go to the local gun shows, too. CWS attends with a lot of goodies on sale.
