Hey guys. My cousin gave me a rifle he bought in Washington before he moved to Texas. If I wanted to sell it, would I have to transfer it to my name first? if so, how would I go about doing that?

It is not registered to anyone now as he bought it right over the counter.
It is a Pre-64 Winchester model 70 30-06

IIRC, there is no registration of a long gun. There is only a transfer and DROS.

I'd keep it personally...unless you want to sell it for $50; then I'll give you my FFL's address.

Long guns are not registered in California, until Jan 2014 when AB 809 takes effect. You can conduct a PPT at a local dealer if you wish to sell it.

I think all pre-64' M70's are designated as C&R. At the very least, check the serial # for date of manufacture.

not sure what C&R is, but I checked the serial number and it appears to be made in 1958. Serial is 436***

It's over 50 years old and therefore doesn't need to be transferred thru an ffl. It's cash & carry!

Post it here on cal guns in the private party sales forum. It should sell pretty quick considering it's cash & carry.

Good luck,
