Yes, that's the only part I cast my doubt. So far no report on loose/bad gas key though. I ordered a LMT BCG nonethelses. And it is really affordable ($105@botach w/ calguns).

Questioning LMT quality is like questioning the reliability and ruggedness of an LWRC M6 or the accuracy of a Noveske barrel.

I read an article that LMT has contracted new modular 7.62 rifles for British government agencies. So . . . . they must be doing something right.

My only complaint with my LMT was no parkerizing under the front sight, so rust would be prevalent around that area when using it in the rain and mud.

Do I need heavy buffer for cabine upper?

I've dealt with a lot of LMT stuff and trust me, they're not better than Colt. I've seen various issues with LMT and for me, I only consider it GTG once I've inspected. I've had screwed up gas keys (damaged and THEN finished...QC anyone?), I've had bolt that were WAY out of spec, carriers that would eat gas rings, holes on lowers that were REDRILLED after the finish, charging handles that didn't have the machining completed so it wouldn't fit into an upper, various finish problems, etc., etc. IMO, LMT's QC is quite spotty.

I would still use LMT parts but again, I would have to carefully inspect each individual part before putting it use. There are a few things that I would recommend wholeheartedly...their receiver extensions & SOPMOD stocks. I've never see a bad one of either one of those items.

BCM and Colt items, I've never had any issues with.

BCM = DD = Colt > LMT

Depends on several factors. You have to shoot it before you can tune to your liking. I have a standard carbine buffer in mine and it feels fine.

They did this to create a better seal between the FSB and barrel. Whether this is true or not, I cannot say for certain.

Broken 2 stage triggers (or shooting out the second stage). Broken bolts (under 5,000 rds), tight chambers (even though they are listed as 5.56 NATO). Commercial receiver extensions, cheap barrel steel, no HPT/MPI, out of spec gas ports, etc, etc.

For a mi-spec one, yes. If you are using a non mil-spec upper (BM, RRA, Oly, CMMG, DPMS, etc), then I would go with an H2 or H3 buffer.

Companies such as BCM, DD, Colt, Noveske, etc include H buffers with their guns.

I would not put LMT above or equal to Colt or BCM (for sure).

I do think that the bulk of their QC issues came from them trying to produce too much during the Obama election year.

I have alot of LMT stuff including 3 DSA Fal receivers and 3 LCW receivers and an LMT MWS and I have been very pleased with their quality. My only bad experiences have been Colt, Bushmaster and Olympic and that was back in the dark ages..

ETA: I have been told LMT has done large scale manufacturing for many contracts with other names on the finished products

I think that only exasperated the problem as some of the LMT problems I had were -2008. Another thing that bother me is that LMT lied about the defects. They would never own up to the screw-ups. They even tried to blame their dealer.

cant say Ive had LMTs pre-08, but myself and several of my friends have had them more recently. Most recently I purchased 4 uppers earlier this year and they were all rock solid.
Better than A LOT of Colts Ive seen anyways. Id say BCM and DD are on par though.

Thats the owners fault, not the workers. I ave head dealings with LMT. They solved the ejection issues but it took a while and plenty of phone calls. I had their number on speed dial if that says anything.
