So im building my first ar15. It is going to be an spr/drm style. I was thinking of getting the bushmaster varminter extra heavy fluted 24 inch barrel. What is another good option for under $450?

Just the barrel or a complete upper?

WOA makes a killer SDMR fluted 20" stainless & an 18" that you could make an SPR out of. I'm running their SDMR barrel & it will group .5 MOA with Hornady 77 grain match ammo.

Check out Rainier Arms. They make good barrels, and they also sell White Oak Armament. Both well within your price requirements.

This.

I've bought 3 18" barrels from Rainier - a WOA, a Rainier UltraMatch and also a Noveske lightweight. All are really nice and the folks at Rainier are top notch.

Well, I was going to post a new thread but might as well comment here instead.

I just bought up a 20" polygonal-rifled SS barrel from Black Hole Weaponry for my AR308. I should get it sometime in January. While I'm waiting, I'm upgrading my M16A4gery....slapped a PRS on it, a free float rail, and now I'm going for the barrel.

Three choices: WOA SDMR (1:7), BHW 20" RL 3 Poly, or Rainier UltraMatch SDMR. Any comment between the three?

Note: this gun is going to be bipoded, shot primarily from prone or from the bench, but should be carry-able. It's getting a TA31F ACOG.

A BIG +++ for Rainier. Im running White oak 16, and 20DMR. Both group less than an inch and even better when i dont screw up. The WOA 20 inch fluted DMR weighs about the same as there 16, so its light for what it is. Im using Black Hills 77grn match.

you got a lot of options.....

in all honestly, any decent barrel out there will do. It just ends up being what you buy will end up being your favorite until you start buying other stuff.
