now that the .308 is done i am looking into a .260 ar- who has done one and what are your impressions, it looks like the bullet drop is similar to the 5.56 but carries almost twice the energy to target, thoughts? :D

jp makes a 22" barrell and it is a popular bolt caliber, somebody surely has done one?

What Bjkearns is saying is that the 260 uses the same sized AR10 lower as your 308. I have one built on a TM lower with a 24" DPMS barrel that I'm going to use for 1,000 yard shooting.

damn, i have been tossing around caliber ideas and was thinking the 260 would fit the smaller 15 chassis. nice rifle, have you been able to shoot it? who's handguard is that?

I haven't even broken it in completely yet. It has maybe 50 rounds through it. That's a DPMS freefloat handguard.

It's a fairly popular caliber in the AR-10 platform...I was looking at getting the DPMS Panther in 6.5 Creedmore but they are hard to come by so it seems.

At 1000 yards my .308 shooting 175gr smk's needs 35.5 moa. My .223 shooting 77gr smk's needs 53 moa. In 15-20mph winds last weekend the guy next to me shooting a 260 needed 27 moa elevation and 2.5 moa windage to get to the target, I needed 10 moa windage with the .308. 260 shoots very flat and cuts through the wind amazingly well.

I'm gonna build a 260 now.

Before you can think of the best cartridge you need to set a goal for this rifle and be able to answer these questions...

Is it for hunting or plinking?
How often are you willing to re-barrel it?
How often will you realistically be shooting past 600 yards? REALISTICALLY !!!!
Do you reload or only be buying factory loads?
