Hello I'm new to Calguns and i was wondering if there any good Shooting ranges in the East Bay Pittsburg,Concord,WalnutCreek,ETC. Also what items should i take to the range besides the obvious items such as ammunition and firearms, I'm still new to the whole "gun scene". Also is there any requirements such as for transporting firearms or when carrying around the Range or any safety courses need to go to a range? Thank you Calguns has been great and i apologize i haven't been able to find information on my questions.

What are you shooting? pistol or rifle?

I recommend United Sportsmen in Concord. They have 15 and 25 yards for pistol and 50 and 100 yards for rifle. Fee is good for the whole day. You can come back. They will teach you basic range rules and they will give you a purple card. Buy some shoot n see targets.

Some of the best of the area are in the east bay.

Go to the website of the range you're interested in(nice listing on that dragunov.net page) and read their rules. They'll tell you how they want things carried around and handled.

Want to learn about transporting? Read this: http://wiki.calgunsfoundation.org/index.php/Transporting

What to take? Targets, per the rules of the range(some don't allow humanoid targets). Ammo that the range allows(some may not allow magnetic, but that's primarily a socal thing), and your eye/ear protection. Check this thread for an example of what people tend to take with them(not all of it is necessary, but you'll see some common trends): http://www.calguns.net/calgunforum/showthread.php?t=494711

U.S.I. Is great if you wanna sit on a bench and shoot.
SJRP in linden is great!
Good pistol range
50 yard rifle range
100 yard rifle range
200 yard rifle range
Theyre family owned and operated and they offer more freedom than USI.
Btw I use to shoot at usi 2x a week when I lived in antioch and besides being over crowded its a good bench range.

second that LPRGC. The livermore club has been through some interesting RSO's but they're generally pretty mellow and lately at least have been much easier to deal with.

Chabot has a thing where if you bring in a receipt for a gun purchase (from the last year?), they'll let you shoot for free (they'll stamp it). So you might as well check it out.

used to see it all the time. I lived down the street in north Concord for a while, so I used to be there all the time. The ROs there are def on top of keeping unsafe activity to a minimum, but it gets harder when its packed.

Do any of them let me waste my ammo and rapid fire?
Usi is the closest to me but very strict.

I don't think any ranges (esp in the area) allow rapid fire outside of courses/LEO/etc.

with a centerfire rifle? That may be tough.
Jackson in South City will let you rapid fire pistols or .22lr rifles.

They have a "rifle range" but its for .223 only and you have to buy their ammo, not sure if you can rapid fire there.

Check the forum here at CalGuns "Shoots, Meets and Range Stories." USI is not as good as it used to be. Chabot (www.chabotgunclub.com) is much nicer and very well organized.
Then again as they say, "to each his own."

I would also recommend USI. If you like it and plan on returning, join Diablo Rod and Gun or one of the other resident clubs and it will save you a lot of money.

How so? They've invested a lot of money over the past two years, and I think the range itself has improved. It has, however, become a lot more crowded on weekends. I like Chabot, too, but the drive is a pain unless you're in Castro Valley or San Leandro.

Go to SHOOTS, MEETS & RANGES. My thread is VENTING and you will or maybe understand my reason for me to say "see ya Diablo R&G." I like Quality and these days USI does not impress me anymore. It is what it is.

I will admit, Chabot IS a very nice and well maintained place to go shooting. It does'nt have that industrial like landfill apperance as other(s) may. They have some pretty good programs and events there also. Its also a nice drive through the hills if you go through Moraga. Just try not to hit a deer or bicyclist.

+1 for livermore. you don't have to move lanes if you want to shoot different distances. usi seems pretty relaxed atmosphere when i shot there with nicoroshi. chabot isn't bad also but for these two, you have to move if you want to switch distances.
