Bought my first AK at Triple A in Vallejo. Looked at Century AK and the sights are off and it is stamped receiver. I went with American Tactical milled receiver and the build is nice! Sights are good. Picking it up tomorrow and can not wait!

Congrats, great looking rifle! I love the side optics rail & a milled receiver is always a plus. Wood furniture looks awesome too.

BTW, I have a Century Polish Underfolder, sights & everything else was dead on, no canting whatsoever.

Give us a shoot report with pics asap... ...

Milled receivers are definately "nicer" but, both fuction the same. I have to wonder if the sites on the Century were correctly zeroed and just not centered. AKs are cheap guns which are slapped together quickly. They have loose tolerances and a lot of room for grit, grim and adjustments whne needed. Just because the sites are not perfectly centered it does not mean the gun is faulty or the sites are "off". The fact that they are just slapped together guns that work reliably is part of their beauty. Comparing a Century Imported AK which was built at a factory which has produced millions of military issued AKs to a gun manufactured in a little machine shop in the US which is manufacturing boutique versions of AKs for a high end commercial market is not really fair. They are two different guns made with two different standards. Either gun will function reliably and last just as long as the other one will. You're going to pay more for fit and finish but, that's it. If fit and finish mean that much to you, then you pay for it and are happy. But, if you just want a functioning rifle, the WASR will fit the bill and allow you to buy a couple thousand rounds of ammo with the savings.

All that said, it looks like you've got a nice gun. Remember, it was made to be dropped in the mud, run over by trucks, used as an emergency oar, left out in the rain and still work. Have fun and enjoy your new toy.

Nice rifle! You really don't need you tube to learn how to take it apart.

1, Push button at rear and remove dust cover.

2, Push forward on button again and remove.

3. Pul back on bolt handle. It will leave the receiver.

Reverse to re assemble.

Have fun!

I needs me to make a video on this :D

I would do this 1ST, cause you never know!

1-Make sure safety lever engaged in saftey (all the way up)
2-Remove magazine
3-Point rifle in safe direction & drop safety lever down to FIRE position! Keeping fingers away from the trigger.
4-Retract the bolt all the way back & hold it back, look and verify chamber is empty!
5-Release bolt and follow Cannon's steps in the quote above ....

... ... lol, did I go too far?!

Removing the bolt carrier and chamber checking an AK are more or less the same operation. Neither is more likely to lead to an AD than the other. Obviously DO take the mag out ;)

Arent milled receivers supposed to have a cutout near the handguard for weight savings?

FiveSeven
12-02-2011, 8:10 PM
This is more rare milled AK and not traditional milled receiver in a sense.
http://www.americantactical.us/1261/detail.html

There were mixed reviews on their AK's some are good and others are horrible, where the rear trunnion screws would come out or the entire rifle would slowly disassemble after so many rounds.

I hope the one posted here would be problem free. I would suggest to shoot it a lot so years later problems don't creep up as I believe their warranty is for several years.

Bootyfull rifle & nice collection ... :D

What is that round thing by the gas port visible on the right side of the rifle in one of the pics? Or is it my vanishing vision playing tricks on me!

How does it compare to shooting an AR or that Sig?

Haven't shot it yet. All I can say is wow! So easy to clean and field strip is super fast. I had trouble taking off the gas tube because the lock is hard to rotate. I need a punch tool to get that sucker to move. Now I want a second AK!

Don't pull the trigger without the bolt carrier in place unless you can keep the hammer from snapping forward. It can hit the ejector and start to peen it if you do too much of that.

Installed Tapco RAZR flash hider and Bushnell TRS25. Boy what a difference between the slant brake and the Tapco flash hider. First cold 3 group shot on the left then dialed the red dot. Here is the 50 yard sight in:

Nice one! I was sitting down and used a sandbag to sight in the red dot. I wanted to shoot standing when the red dot was dead on but the lane was packed. I am happy with the results being it is 3 moa dot and using tulammo fmj steel cased brass. It ate everything and it is easier to clean than my ar!!!

I see bro, I see, very nice .... ;)

I also recommend that you get proficient with the AK 'Open Target' Iron Sights too... these Iron Sights are awesome and designed to give you a wide view of the situation ahead; engaging multiple targets, possibly in motion; without taking your eye off. Give it a try, you'll like it. ... just in case a band of zombies come knocking ...LOL!!! :D
