Talking about my 52 started me thinking of this. I first had a 39-2. This led to the 52. Later on I acquired a 639. My one complaint against the 39 was the aluminum frame. I like to shoot hot loads through my service class pistols, and the 39 wasn't too happy with them. I acquired a 639. Steel frame. much better. I let it get away in a trade. Boy was that dumb! If I ever find another
fixed sight 639 I'm going to grab it! I'll start shooting 9mm again. I haven't shot 9mm since my daughter sweet talked me out of my Browning. I've tried a lot of different 9's but the one that felt best, to me was that 639

You mentioned the S&W model 39, one of the first American made 9mm semiautos. I bought one of these new about 1968 and still have it. It has been an excellent gun, and I shoot it every 3 or 4 months. The frame is indeed aluminum, but it has held up quite well.

That sure is a pretty 39. But I like the greater weight of the steel frame. I didn't havea chance to buy any guns in 1968. The government was issuing mine, I was a Lieutenant in Viet Nam at that time!
