Inland only goes out to 200 meters.

West End goes out to 550 yards on the rear firing line. Use of the rear firing line outside of a match is restricted to members. I'm not a member, so maybe a WEGC member can chime on how to get access to this area for a non-match shoot. The public area goes out to 200 yards from what I can tell. I've never used the public firing line at WEGC.

I can tell you that once we completed the Across the Course match last month and they opened up the gate to the rear range, people poured in to get access to the various bays for pistol shooting.

proraptor
03-01-2007, 4:25 PM
Thats cool ocabj.....Are you going to be at the next match on the 11th?

ocabj
03-01-2007, 4:46 PM
The tactical match? Probably not. I'm not really into 'tactical' matches, which is why I never shot in the one held at WEGC.

The WEGC matches I've shot in are the 600 yard prone (which they don't hold anymore -- used to be 30 rounds for record with 'unlimited' sighters) and the Across the Course high power match (and the Action Pistol).

Just a tip for you guys who never shot at 550/600 yards before: You'll need about 14 minutes of angle from your 100 yard zero to get to 550/600 yards. This should get you on paper. Try running the numbers in JBM to get an estimated dope so you have theoretical data to refer to during the match. Best would be to get data for 100 to 600 with 50 yard increments and just print it out and bring it with you.

Oh, also, the tactical match (as is any match) at WEGC is contingent on weather. If it's raining, they usually call it off. If it's really windy, they'll probably call it off. Just be aware of that before you pack up all your gear and spend the time and gas driving out to the match.

how about a place to shoot in saugus? this might make it a little easier for people coming from up north.

Steel plates are setup from one hundred yards to five hundred yards for target shooting during inclement weather

03-05-2007, 6:45 PM
Yes we do allow 50's but you must set up at the end of the rifle line and if your shooting at steal targets you can only shoot at the red targets starting at 400 yds. Targets go out to 600 yds. We havent done any weeding yet on the rifle line so we are cracking down on steal core ammo please dont bring any. Also the only restrictions on firearms are no full autos and nothing notisely under legal length. High cap mags are fine so are any so called assault rifles. We nore does anyone else check the legality of your firearms.

I advise you to get there in the morning and setup at the end of the rifle line. I dont believe any club has that side reserved for shooting such as the 50 club but ill double check.

Count me in guys ill get there early and help set up.

I'm going to see if I can do the drive down there. I've been dying to try my 50 at something more than 100 yards.

I don't think I have any AP stuff, mostly surplus. But most of the 50 surplus out there have a mild steel core so it will fail the magnet test. Only stuff I'm sure that doesn't have it is the super expensive match grade, $4 bucks a shot bullets. Is that okay to shoot surplus non-AP ammo?

I always try to set up my 50 at the end of the range. Want to disturb the least amount of people possible.

As long as it passes the magnet test its fine normally we sell 50 ammo at around 45 a box but im not sure we have any instock

I read the rules for the range. Whats up with the rules for various yards. 100 yards you need to tell the office? 300 yard line may only be used monday thrue thursday?

You don't need to tell the office if you'll be shooting at 100yrds.

Mute
03-08-2007, 6:13 PM
The public ranges are split in two. Rifles to the left of the office and handguns to the right. On the rifle range, set up about half way to about 3/4 of the way to the end. That will give you the most direct line of sight to the 500 and 600 yard targets. The 100 and 200 target holders are across the entire line.

proraptor
03-08-2007, 9:02 PM
So who is going to be shooting 500-600 yards? That will be fun to see....Im most likely going to stay 100-200 yards as Im a noob to precision...Maybe some of you can give me pointers

whlgun
03-08-2007, 9:41 PM
We only restrict where you can put your paper targets. 100 and 200 every day. 300 monday and thursday. The reason is a private range overlooks the rifle range and the cops put targets facing them so the crossfire onto our range. Its not fun putting up targets while cops are shooting at you.

And i havent had a chance to get ahold of the EDM guy but i do know they are on sale. Also he is a really cool guy in terms of you trying out the gun. But keep in mind the reason he brings them out is to try and sell them.

proraptor
03-09-2007, 8:46 AM
So no paper targets out further than 200 yards? That kind of sucks for guys trying to hit paper at 600 yards...

Unless the range has pits at 600 for paper, I wouldn't want to shoot at a range where people are walking out to 600 to place paper targets and walking out during breaks to check their bullet holes. The breaks would take forever.
