Ummm, a 10 round mag is a 10 round mag...no? Why would those be different?

Generally speaking, you'll get equally accurate information regarding vehicle code/laws from a car dealership.

Depends on how they fix them to be 10 rounders I guess.

Gun shops are notorious for spreading incorrect information.

As long as it is permanently limited to 10 rounds you are fine. It doesn't matter what it's outward appearance looks like.

The only Kalifornia mags I see on their site are Pmags, that's exactly what I have. I wouldn't worry about it.

Were they trying to sell you their own magazines instead?

Just who is going to be taking your rifle away in that idiotic statement anyways?
If it's the police, that's not all that will be happening to you...

That's what just popped into my head. You could have a 10/20 or 10/30, but it has to be permanently fixed to hold 10 rounds (i.e.- you can't just pop open the mag and take out the block to have a hi-cap magazine). Looking at their website, it seems they should be good to go though.

Woah. Calm down there Champ...

I wasn't calling you an idiot. I was saying that the gun stores statement was idiotic which it is.

I was also questioning who exactly this gun store thought would take away the gun? Them? a Range? the Police? etc

It's pretty much a given if the Police are going to take your gun you are going to get arrested too. That was my point.

BTW Welcome to Calguns!

I'm also thinking of getting some 10/20 and 10/30 mags but even if they are legal will you not visually stick out and possibly get hassled even though its legal...cause it does not look legal..do people in Cali actually use the 10/20 or 10/30 mags or does it make sense just to use the 10 rounders and not draw attention

Plenty of people use PRE-BAN 30 round mags already (in featureless rifles). No law against it. Its when you are using them in conjunction with a bullet button when it becomes an issue.

That was your first mistake. Most shops are to be taken with a grain of salt.

I just ordered 3 of them (10/30) because...

They are easier to clear from the gun than a hanging 10 rounder.
They can be opened for cleaning.
They are easier to deal with in vest pockets, mag holders, etc.

I actually wanted the 10/20's but they do not come apart for cleaning.

since we're on the topic, can you go into a little more detail for a noob? specifically...

HOW would a LEO or range know that the 30 round mags you have are pre-ban? Even if they really are and you're the one that really bought them X years ago, how do you PROVE it, say, at a range if a cop comes up to you and challenges you on it?

2nd, why are they still a no-no with a bullet button?

TIA

You say they are pre-ban mags that you legally had possession of before the ban, and leave it at that. Don't accidentally talk yourself into trouble.

As long as the mags are permanently limited to 10 rounds, so that they cannot be altered to become 30rnd mags without destroying the magazine, youre fine

According to many on this site, you should not be able to open or disassemble either. If you can, then the modification is not permanent.

I'm not saying I agree with that position, but you should be aware of its implications and be able to defend your position should an LEO question you regarding your "blocked 10 round mags".

There is a nice long sticky with much discussion on the topic which can be found here - http://calguns.net/calgunforum/showthread.php?t=387409

Clarification....
The Web site describes them as "permanantly pinned" at 10 rounds. The BASE plate can be removed for cleaning, but the limit pins need to be drilled out to change mag capacity. I have not actually seen them yet as I only ordered Thursday.

I got checked by RSO out on BLM land a couple of months ago. I was accused of having illegal mags. I had the 10/30 PMags. I had to take the rounds out and reinsert them to show the officer it only held 10 rounds. He said he wasn't familar with those and they looked like a 30 round mag to him. You would think if he is checking he would know better........or did he????

^^10/30 and 30 PMags look the same at a distance...a good excuse to check you out I guess.

OP, I use PMag 10/20's w/o any issues so far. Completely legal as they are pinned/epoxied and cannot be disassembled w/o destroying them.

I agree but if he is inspecting you think he would have heard of 10/30 magazines. Its all good though. He was polite and I had nothing to hide.
