I've been browsing periodically for years but I'm 20 now, 21 in about 6 months, and I felt I should make an account already. Turns out my names not taken! I'm a college student so I'll be fairly active and if time warrants I'll drop more information about myself.

I'm saving for a bike and a decent handgun to take to the range a couple times a month. Wouldn't mine an AR-15 either. I'm in Torrance, CA.

Welcome to Calguns! Do you research, try handguns at the range - one or more will grab your attention after shooting it..

Save your dollars and buy what you want, not what is inexpensive... :)

That's what my marine buds tell me. Better to get something good first and not sit around wishing you had something else.

Thanks for the good advice.

Well, that's your budget?

In two months I should have saved $1200. I should have enough for a good handgun by 21. Also a quick question. Can I start the purchase process 10 days before I turn 21 so I can has the pistol on my birthday?

Don't forget your .22, 12ga, and 1911 you'll need too.

Well, for $1200 or more, you can get a good 1911 (personally, I'd go with a Dan Wesson or Les Baer), or a nice Glock and a few cases of ammo and some range fees. At least, these would be my preferences, if I were to get my first handgun again. I ended up getting a Glock 35 as my first handgun, by the way, still one of my favorites.

Now, all people are different, so I suggest you to go to the range with someone who's already a shooter (I don't know your comfort around firearms) and try as many handguns as you can. See which gun fits your hands best.

I wanted a reliable AR-15 with a rail system so I could dress it up with some nice furniture. Magpul, Eotech, etc. As for handgun I just want something tactical that shoots straight and looks good.

I'd probably get a precision rifle in a few years also. Maybe after graduation. With a real job comes more money. :D

Welcome! Play nice & don't feed the :troll: s :D

I think you need a nice Smith & Wesson Model 686 in 357 w/ a 4" barrel. You can shoot 38, 38+p or 357 out of it. Wheelguns for :wheelchair: 's FTW!

You buy the pieces & assemble a decent AR for under a grand.

I plan on building it from scratch. I'll be sure to post the whole thing in a detailed thread later on.

The gun industry is here for you. They got plenty of those now.

AR-10/SR-25/LWRC/POF/Larue etc........basically there are a good selection of companies that make them.

Problem is you're going to need $$$

for a handgun I would recommend a glock 19 or the 17 if you want the full size one. Can't go wrong with a glock. I think they look fine but some say they're ugly.

Ahmad

I like the look of glocks. But I want a SIG. If I win the lottery I'd grab an mk23.

Welcome aboard! Since you've been around for a while you already know there is a lot of knowledge in the individual subforums. Most folks don't look in the 'new here' area for questions to answer, just FYI.
