What is every body using for a bi-pod for their M1A Scout Rifle? I have looked at the Harris and the Springfield A2 model that hooks to the gas chamber, but not sure which one. Plus mags, which ones are the better mags and where to buy them?

No one should use a bipod that hooks to the gas block. you should use a bipod that attaches to the stock -- Sadlak makes an adaptor to put a length of rail where the from sling attachment is.

That's one reason I love my JAE stock -- attachment points already there --

For Mags I use Springfield 10 rounders or 44mag.com

IMHO - Don't get five rounders unless you're really going to hunt with them -- hard to get the leverage to get them in and out of the mag well.

Thanks, I will check out 44mag.com and probably go with a Harris pod.

Bipod: Harris for a decent price or GG&G, Bobro or Atlas for a less decent price.
Rail: Sadlak HD front rail.

forgive my ignorance, but what are the reasons to not clamp it onto the gas cylinder?

I had used a cheapo-one from amazon (that I use on my accustrut on my mini) on my dad's M1A the other day and clamped it onto the gas cylinder (some greedy guy grabbed all of the sandbags!)

How bad is that to do?

If you check the Springfield Armory site, you find the bipod (A2) that hooks to the cylinder is way more money then the Harris they have on sell. So I don't know the don't to hooking up the gas cylinder if the maker of the weapon sells them. But I"m still looking at the Harris.

Thanks, that Atlas looks sweet. I'm heading in that direction even though it costs so much more. I got a feeling this rifle is going to be costly :).
