Before I knew about the whole OLL/OLR thing, I bought a stainless steel Ruger 10/22 carbine for the purposes of building my first home-built custom gun. It was quite a learning process, and I was quite pleased with the results:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v221/KnightForums/Guns/PJCT1022STRAIGHTON.jpg

About 90% of the internals I replaced with Volquartsen parts. The only parts that are original are the receiver, bolt body, trigger detent, and safety detent.

You'll notice the triggerguard is black, but the receiver is stainless. That's because I did this to the original:

Like I said, a learning process . . .

Let's see some other custom 10/22s!

I actully wore out the barrel on my 10/22 varmint hunting in Alturas when I lived up there for a summer. So I started to rebuild it. better barrel led to a better scope because the new barrel could easily out shoot the old tasco scope, had to buy a new stock for the bull barrel got lucky and got a factory laminated ruger stock for $25 at Jones fort in Redding. Now the trigger pull is to heavy for the scope so I am goin to have to pick up a volquarsen trigger assy. It went from an $80 used gun I picked up from my buddy to a $300 dollar and counting tack driver

I bought the heavy barrel target model 10/22. I then did a trigger job ( replaced parts with Power Custom) bedded the stock and bonded the barrel to the receiver. What was once a good shooting gun became a great shooting gun. I used the Aguila 32 gn hyper velocity rounds on prarie dogs for a couple of years until the .17 hmr came out. Since then I don't shoot the .22 at all.

Well, technically there are two AR-15-style stocks, Kilword's (which looks awesome, btw! ) and mine. I'm assuming you're referring to mine, since Kilword listed his stock model below his pic . . .

It's an Evolution 10/22 stock from RB Precision, Inc (http://www.rbprecision.com/id72.htm).

Nice 10/22s. I think I'm gonna get a 10/22 after I finish my OLL and put a Millitech Bullpup stock on it (it's a plinker so I'm not overly concerned with the effect it will have on the accuracy of it).

If that trigger housing is stainless it can most likely be welded back on real easily. Id do it with a MIG and blend it down with a sanding drum on the dremel, you'd never know it was done except the areas of weld would tarnish if it wasn't done with stainless wire.

I actually still have the broken triggerguard, but I lost the piece that broke off. The replacement part wasn't too expensive, from what I remember. Plus I have zero experience/equipment for what you're describing.

I just want to mention again how incredible your 10/30 AK mags look, JP. I can't wait to get mine!

DedEye, another company that makes high-quality bullpup stocks is Ironwood Designs (http://www.ironwooddesigns.com/2aprod/11022prod.html). Just to give you some more options.

The receivers and trigger guard components on the K versions of the 10/22 are made of Aluminum I believe...

Here is my Ruger 10/22 Green Mountain 18" barrel, Houge stock and an e-bay trigger job. The target is a 10 rounds at 50 yards. With better ammy and less wind I think it will do half of this group. The funnest rifle I own (for now) Sammy

Mine started out as a dsp. I got it in 1983 or so.

Now it has a Green Mountain barrel, Revival stock, glass bedding, Skeeter's hammer and adjustable sear and a VQ trigger. I have all the original parts so I can always put it back the way it was.

The group is 5 shots at 50 yards with Federal Auto Match. It won't always do one hole, but it comes close.

It's a 10/22 BR stock from Mike Turner at Turner Customs. You aren't going to find much about the stock since he doesn't have it on his website. I saw a pic of the stock awhile ago that he made for someone else, and I contacted Mike to see if he would build me one. It did take over 2 months for him to finish it because he was very busy and had some personal/business problems. Currently, he's not taking any more orders as he's trying to finish other projects first.

Good thread.

So I just bought 2 stripped 10/22 receivers.

besides the barrel, magazine, stock and trigger assembly. What else would I need to complete my receiver?.

Is there like a LPK for 10/22s?.

You would need a bolt and bolt handle to go inside the receiver and some sort of sights to go on top of the receiver. You might also like to get a bolt buffer to soften the bolt hitting the receiver.
Is there like a LPK for 10/22s?.No, the trigger group assembly has all that in it.

I called up RBprecision last week...looks like an 8-12 week wait for the evolution stock.
I just called Rhineland arms and thier mail box is full...

Those are the only 2 stocks I like...although I am considering a Tapco stock.

If you don't get a buffer you'll need the steel bolt stop pin, so you might as well get a buffer. You'll need the barrel retaining block (commonly called the V-block) and the two socket-head cap screws that go with it. You'll probably need an action screw, since most stocks won't come with one.

Here are a few of the rifles I built when I had rimfire disease.

I just picked this up from 1911Whore. I added a few items to it.

Specs:

Ruger Target Stock
Lightened trigger
VQ auto bolt release
VQ extended mag release
Kimber barrel
Weigand Integra receiver mount (rings and mount all in one)
Mueller APV 4.5-14x40AO
Clear factory Ruger mags

This rifle eats everything I feed it so far (Rem Golden Bullets, Mini-Mags, Velocitors).

The squirrles are going to fear this rifle.

Do you guys feel that it is better to get a stainless receiver or go with the orginal alloy receiver from ruger.

I love the "looks" of the Evolution for the Ruger 10/22. Is it a legal setup for a rimfire in California.

Of course! Since it's rimfire, you can put all sorts of scary evil stuff on a 10/22.
