I have my eye on a Dpms Oracle 16' I'm not to sure how good these rifles are. Any input would be great.

I've got a one close to it (sportical?), no FA/BL...etc.....not chrome lined either , but it shoots great...nice little game rifle and plinker.....you can never have to many good AR's...

Its your basic AR15. A good shooter. Plan on spending cash for upgrades and the little things like sights, slings, magazines, spare parts like a "field repair kit" I'd start with a spare pin repair kit. The DPMS pins seem to snap under heavy use. If the hammer pin last 500 rounds, it should be good for 5000 more. Replace at 5K rounds no matter who manufactured. Just sound maintenance practice. I do a full LPK swap at 7500 rounds.

Thanks for the input. One more question. The price is the same as the S&W M&P15, so what would be the better buy then?

I THINK... the DPMS has a dust cover and Forward Assist, and the S&W has neither. They are about the same overall, not too much to care about at least. I would go with the S&W just for the logo. I also like the S&W melonite treatment over non-chrome lining, or even over standard chrome lining in many cases.

If the dust cover and FA is an issue... go with the DPMS. For me it wouldnt be that much of an issue and I think the S&W is a better buy overall.

hard call on that one.

Good to go! I have a DPMS Sportical and I love it! They are a great rifle for the money. I recently went out and put it to the test stress wise and it functioned FLAWLESSLY! The only FTF I had was with wolf ammo, and it still cycled 17 out of 18 rounds of wolf with ease. Here are some DPMS rifles and reviews people have left on theirs personally:

Good buy overall

OK.... so far the Dpms sounds like a good buy. Still have a few days to think about this. Any other AR's in the same price range worth considering?

I would pick SW M&P15 over the DPMS Oracle. The M&P 15 has front and rear sights so basically it's a ready to shoot gun out of the box. The Oracle on the other hand doesn't have sights which means you will have to spend extra money. I think the M&P15 is cheaper too if I remember correctly from the last Turner's ad.

I would go with S&W over DPMS. That being said, I have a DPMS complete upper, like the ones that they are selling at Midway right now for $379, and it has been a great little gun. Mine has the bull barrel, no FA or dust cover. But it is a shooter. And I couldn't beat the price. Either one will work for your basic plinker.

DPMS was my first AR. I shot the heck out of it. I put 10k rds throught it and not a problem.

if you're scraping money together to buy a S&W or DPMS you shouldn't be buying a rifle.

These are entry level guns and they will work just fine for plinking or home defense. Remember NOT EVERYBODY can afford a Colt M4 Carbine or Noveske Infidel:rolleyes:.
