Hey folks,
On monday my dros will be done and I will be able to pick up my first AR that I purchased through the forum from toolman9000, who is a really nice guy and was a flawless transaction. But, now I'm going to have a rifle and I have questions...

First, where is a good place to get quality 10 round AR mags? Now that I'll have a rifle, I'll need mags. I'm not sure if it makes a difference, but it has a Stag lower.

Next is a legal issue question, the rifle is currently in gripless configuration. But I would like to be able to switch it back and forth from gripless to fixed mag so I can see which I prefer. Are there any legal issues with possessing a pistol grip that is not installed on the rifle? (I know it's risky to ask any legal advice questions, so just your opinions would be appreciated)

This is a two part question about the flat top rifles. I purchased an inexpensive scope, because that's all I can afford right now. But how do I zero it in? I'm assuming I need a range with a rifle bench rest? IF so, does anyone know of any friendly to OLL's in the greater San Diego or Riverside county areas?

And lastly is ammo. toolman9000 told me that he fired Federal XM in 5.56 out of it. He informed me that it has a floating firing pin and does not recommend .223 as it has a soft primer. But the upper is a DPMS 20 inch bull barrel flat top and is stamped .223. I was always taught that you ONLY fired what the barrel said. So, now I'm concerned. toolman9000 knows a LOT more about firearms and specifically ar's than I do. This is my first 'real' rifle as an adult. Everything else I own is 22.

Any advice or suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

PM me your contact info. I'm local, I can help you.

Possessing a pistol grip is TOTALLY legal....

I'll be ordering some stuffs from 10% in the next couple of days, if you want I can order your stuffs too. I can take you to Rainbow Range (on HWY 15, near temecula, probably less than 30min from you) next weekend and I can help you zero your AR and answer any of your questions, legal or technical(if they are not too difficult).

.223 and 5.56 is the same round..

That is not neccasarily true. You can't shoot 5.56 through a .223 chamber unless the .223 is a wylde chamber. You can shoot .223 through a 5.56 chamber all day long though. The neck on a 5.56 is different than a .223 and 5.56 also run at higher pressures and a standard .223 chamber may not be up to the task.

.223 and 5.56 is the same round..
bullets are identical; maximum chamber pressure is definitely not.

Ok, knowing that the rounds are different, if the barrel is stamped 223, but he's fired 5.56 through it, what should I choose? And what about the primer issue?

Anyone know of any local gunshops with ar mags in stock?

All ARs use a floating firing pin and its normal to have a small dimple on the primer before firing.

If the barrel is marked .223 that is what you should be firing in it.

Neither. I have not had good luck with any type of promag.

Stick with Bushy or C-Products.
