I'm thinking of buying a 1911, please help me pick one!

So far I've looked at Colts, Springfields, RIA, Kimber, Sig, Les Baer, Wilson, Ed Brown, and Thompson Ordnance. I like some more than others, and certain features (i.e. grip safety, a barrel, a thumb safety, a trigger). It also has to be in my price range, which is $300 - $4000, but I want to make sure I get a good one that has the four features I mentioned. I also don't know which caliber to get, I was thinking maybe .50 GI? This will be primarily a SHTF/home defense/target/competition/showpiece gun; but it will also need to be something my girlfriend can shoot comfortably.

Based on this information can you guys please help me decide which 1911 to buy? Also a plus if it comes with lots of clips.

Please no flaming, I used the search feature.

why do you have a Glock, a Remington shotgun, and a Sig as choices when you are looking for a 1911? The only company that makes a 1911 chambered for the .50GI is Guncrafter Industry so your choices are limited there. The four features you listed exist on all 1911s so you will have to list a few other things you are looking for...

Honestly tell me why would you want a P228 over a P229 or a P226.

There was a guy here with a P229 with 3 mags for like 500 or so.

I would pick that up If I was in the market for a pistol. ya cant beat a SIG.

get the 1911, you'll love it! Does your price range say $300-$4,000??? I assume that's supposed to be $3-400? You'll have a hard time finding a 1911 with a lot of features for that price, try Rock Island Armoury, or try to find a used springer GI. Don't be afraid to get a used one, I have a US&S from WWII and it still works perfectly! Once you get a 1911, all other pistols are just "for fun" or "novelties" for you to play with! Hahah! (Wow, I bet I'm going to get bashed for that comment!)

Take the 870, it has all the features you need and it’s an ace up your sleeve in a gun fight….

Just remember, unless you are 9’-2” tall, you’ll have to stay away from inside the pants holsters…

I agree, the choices are quite confusing? I guess to answer the question, I would have to ask first, What are his intention for the it. Home protection, carry or range gun?

Nah not a troll, I was just messin around, we've had far too many "which 1911 should I buy" threads lately. Sorry for my poor attempt at humor, and my apologies if I offended anyone.

And those of you who provided advice, lol, I thank you, but I already have both the 870 and the SA 1911. :)

Seems like alot of people say the P228 is better balanced then the P229. Personally, I've held my 228 and then my buddies 229 and I didn't notice too much of a difference (although the 229 was a tiny bit more top heavy).

Geez, ain't that the truth. I almost came to believe my goal last year was to buy out the Kimber catalog. It's like lever action rifles. One is never enough.
