If it is a manually-cycled AK, then you just need to be over 26". You can have any magazine (as long as you don't fix it in place) and number of evil features you want.

26" overall length, 16" barrel length.

Oh, and don't go changing it so that it suddenly learns how to shoot 50BMG.

I think that about covers it.

But .510 DTC should work.;)

Or, come to think of it, you could weld it to a carriage with wheels so that it becomes a 50BMG cannon, at which point it would be ok.

but wouldnt that require you to buy a barreled reciever in 50BMG? its not a rifle.. but im sure the DOJ would frown upon it

I'm sorry, a what?

You know those bright yellow things that grow on trees.Although I wouldn't recomend sticking them in an AK.

Someone needs to post a picture of a banana paperclipped to a gun.

Only if you had a drum mag;)

assuming the gas system was removed/inoperable .. 26" length ... and what else?, what magazine limitations are there assuming you have preban mags.

Here is a similar idea....
This is a patent for a manually operated AK Type firearm.
I couldn't post the images, but here is the text and patent info.
Want to see the images, go to the USPTO, then patent search, enter the patent number from here, and the patent will come up.

United States Patent 5,581,926
Taalib-din , et al. December 10, 1996

Manually actuated rifle

A manually actuated rifle which maintains the aesthetics of a semi-automatic rifle, but which is incapable of semi-automatic or automatic fire. A piston guide member is provided which has at least one aperture therein for preventing actuation of the action by gas pressure.

I found it interesting.....

How do you plan on making the gas system inoperable? I'd consider doing it to my AK if it was simple and reversible.
