what all do I need to do convert my G22 (.40 cal) to the G17 (9mm). Is all I need to do is buy the G17 barrel and the G17 mags, or is there more to the conversion??

If so, where is the best couple of places online to purchase the G17 barrels??

Thanks, Ben

All you need is the barrel off a 17. You can load the 9mm rounds into your 40 mags and they will feed fine.

Wrong. A G17 barrel will not work in a G22 slide because it has a different breechface. You can get a Bar Sto conversion 9mm barrel for a G22, and that along with a 9mm ejector and 9mm mags should get you going right. Might need a 9mm extractor too if it has problems with extraction. Otherwise, a complete G17 upper assembly will be required for the easiest "conversion." Will still need the 9mm ejector though.

if only it were that easy. Bar Sto makes a conversion barrel that will work with the g22 slide and so do some others. I was looking into this for my sig p226 .40 to save on ammo but then decided if I wanted a 9mm I should just sell my .40 and get one. If you really want a g17, just sell your g22 and buy a 17...they arent much money. If you want it for the ability to switch between the two, I would recommend getting a entire slide barrel combo off a 17. As kanstudien mention above, to make it the barsto barrel work you will most likely be replacing extractors and ejectors, not a hard thing to do but not a fast easy thing either when you want to switch calibers.

We ran a few mags of 9 through a buddy's G22 using my G17 barrel and it happened to work fine. I guess its not supposed to work, but in our case it happened to. I stand corrected.

I did this with my g35. bar sto and wolf and I believe wilson have conversion barrels. Get one of those, get a magazine in 9mm and get a 9mm extractor and rod, spring etc. It is an easy conversion and takes 2-3 minutes to go from one caliber to the other. I got the wolf barrel and can shoot golf ball sized groups offhand at 15 yards.

having personally tried this, all that is needed is a 9mm barrel. So if you have a 23 get a 19 barrel, a 22 needs a barrel from a 17.

The only problem is that the .40 mag lips are slightly wider and sometimes a round will stand up and stove pipe. But this is fixed by using a 9mm mag.

Other then that it functions just fine. Breech face size, ejector location are just fine.

I believe the ejector is molded into the frame on glocks.

Another aftermarket conversion barrel maker is EFKfiredragon. https://www.efkfiredragon.com/products.php?cat=43&pg=2 For a few dollars more they have a ported one.

Call and check with these people for the 22 -> 17 conversion. Their website might need to be updated.

Conversion barrel + magazine = good to go.

Just did it to my Glock 35... Got a Lone Wolf 40 - 9 barrel, got two 9mm Glock factory mags and it ran without problems so far. Was talking to Lone Wolf about the necessity of getting a new ejector and extractor, and they told me to just go with barrel and mags first and only get ejector/extractor if you experience problems so that's what I did. Guys over at Glocktalk also recommended just the barrel and mag swap only. The Lone Wolf barrel was only $89 and it is plenty accurate. I also dropped the recoil spring weight down to 13 lbs. so I get a nice and light recoil, but that is personal preference.

Josh, that is the HK USP that molds the ejector into the frame. I know because someone dropped their gun while disassembled and totally f-ed their ejector. Fumble fingers = needs whole new frame from HK. Good luck to that guy, I think he is still waiting.

If the Glock 17 barrel simply drops in and works, then why are there conversion barrels specifically made for converting .40/.357 to 9mm?

lone wolf dist. has all the barrels you need and most the brands
id stick with lone wolf themselves best for the money.

Just put another 200 rounds of Winchester range white box ammo through my lonewolf 40 to 9 barrel... Had one stovepipe jam resulting from limp wristing but rest ran without a hiccup. Again, only swapped the barrel and the magazine, nothing else, and the aftermarket barrel was more accurate than stock Glock. Double taps with 9 mm is easier for me than with the .40 S&W.
