The new proposed regulations have been posted and here they are:
The California Fish and Game Commission has posted the proposed regulations for big game hunting that include the bans on lead ammunition.
Big Game Species that will no longer be allowed to be hunted with lead ammo- Deer, elk, pronghorn antelope, black bear and wild pig.
Ammo types affected- bullets, muzzle loading balls, slugs and buckshot. This means rifle, handgun, shotgun, and muzzleloaders.
Hunt zones where ban is to take place: South Unit A Deer Zone, all of Deer zones D9, D10, D11, and D 13.
Counties affected: Monterey, San Benito, Western Fresno, Kings, Western Madera, Western Tulare (sliver), San Luis Obispo, Santa Barbara, Most of Kern, Ventura, Los Angeles County contained with Zone D 11 (at least 50%, mostly in the north part of the county)
The Fish and Game Commission is scheduled to hear this issue on either March 1, or March 2, 2007 at their meeting in Arcata at Humboldt State University.
