I saw some on the internet in .338 and I'm considering saving up for one, but first I need to know if some CA politbureau member already decided it's too cool to have?

It is a bolt action rifle. It meets minimum length requirements and it isn't a 50BMG....it is legal....

If you get a rifle in 338LM, be sure that you reload; ammunition is no cheaper than $4 a round if you buy it instead of reload it yourself. Even reloading for 338 is kind of expensive. between 85-110 grains of powder in each case (depending on the powder and bullet) and match bullets are about 50 cents per bullet and up. The brass is between a $1 and $2 each to buy new.

I don't own any Armalite rifles but you could check their website and see if they spec the AR30 to 1 MOA accuracy like some of their AR15/10 uppers. The 338 Lapua has muzzle break option that I would recommend. I've shot their AR50 with the same MB and it tamed the recoil to a very tolerable level. The reason I've passed on an AR30 or AR50 is they were born to shoot at distances of 800 yds and up. I shoot bolt action .308 to 800 yds and know how fun it can be make long distance shots. My problem was where to shoot safely/hazzle free at 1000 yds and up that didn't require a weekend trip.

I thought that he was from the village people, and left his cop hat home that day.

It's kinda bulky, and kind of crappy, but it's the cheapest you'll find a .338 Lapua, and I guess the accuracy isn't bad.

Remington was supposed to come out with one, but I haven't heard anything about it lately.
