I think I know 1x9 won't.

I know 1x7 will.

So... how about 1x8? I had read conflicting info from various sources....

Some say... to use 77gr, you'd need 1x7 (but most of the time, that discussion is 1x7 vs 1x9.... if that's the case, I agree, that 1x7 is needed)...

I had also see sources saying that for 77gr or 80gr, you would need 1x8 and faster....

So, if you had any personal experience, please let me know...

Thanks!

Yes. 1 in 8 can stabilize up to 80gr.

I tried 77gr sierra for awhile and shot ok. When I went to 80gr bullets using the same powder gr my groups tightened up. I was using 1x8. Now I run the 75 HPBT Match Hornady with 23.5gr wcc 846 which is a pull down powder. Same as BLC-2. I load my 80gr Sierra bullets the same way. Excellent results

I know that 77gr will fit in magazine and all... will 80gr fit in magazine and not need to single feed??

No. The heaviest bullet you can use at mag length is the Sierra or Nosler 77gr.

80gr and above will not seat to mag length.

Note: The Hornady 75gr A-Max will not seat to mag length. Not sure about the Berger 75gr VLD.

When going for a 1:8 twist barrel, it's always best to go with a reputable maker such as Krieger, Pac-Nor, Wilson, etc.

A true 8 twist barrel will stabilize the 77 and 80 gr Sierras. If it's from Joe Blow Blast-o-Rama Barrels, you're taking your chances on the accuracy of the twist rate.

Are you saying 1:8 might not be 1:8 depending on who makes it? I would figure that since rifling is all done on a machine and if that machine is setup to do 1:8, that is what you get. If it's not setup to do 1:8, then it's operator error. The machines are all timed and gear driven and don't change twist rates unless you tell them to or something really terrible goes wrong. If it's CNC, then its programmer error.

Crap, who makes DPMS barrels? Wilson? Oh well, it shoots good enough for me!
