I just ordered a stag OLL and was wondering if i can start the DROS before the receiver actually gets to the FFL?

If i give the serial number to them etc?

most, if not all, FFL's won;t DROS until they have the gun/receiver in their grubbly little hands.. mostly incase the distributor does send the item with a different serial number than was was given............

The serial number of a rifle is not reported on the DROS but it is on a handgun.

I've had FFL's DROS long guns for me once the distributor told them that it was shipped.

Same here... Your best bet is to ask the individual FFL.

Every FFL I have done transfers with have let me start the DROS on receivers or long guns before they have arrived at the FFL.

I am in Orange County and going through Ade's. I will call him and ask. I am pretty most FFL's will do it but not sure. I am just freeking anxious for my first AR build!

Most transfer dealers will start a DROS before receiving a long arm. Some will also start handgun transfers, once they receive serial numbers from distributors. Many distributors and manufactures, Kimber, Davidsons, RSR, etc.. will give you serial numbers so you can start the paperwork after the firearm has shipped.

If you pay up first, then most FFLs will DROS you to your heart's delight.
