I was hoping someone could answer this for me. i pickedup a LAR lower today, it will be 10 days before i can get a picture of it. the wierd thing about it is that they have large panels cut out of the left side by the mag catch. It almost looks like they did it to lighten it but that didn't make any sense to me since it's aluminum and already pretty light. Another possible reason might have been so you can see the mag. but that's stupid too.

Any one the reasoning behind this? i bought it anyways since it was $30 cheaper than the cmmg which i already had.

thanks

don't get me wrong. i don't think it looks bad, in fact, i got a couple of them. The price wasn't bad either.

They made the cuts to lighten the lower.....there used to be a weight restriction on a AR pistol....or some BS like that....

Still a functional lower but not much past that.......of course with all that room you could put a hell of a mag lock in there.......:D

It's made by LAR......not a grizzly receiver.

Xeno (I think it was) had an interesting theory on the reason behind those interesting lowers in a thread a week or two ago.

They probably made a bunch of them for some other company who couldn't/wouldn't cough up their final payment, so in order to prevent a total loss they machined out the sections containing that company's logo (rollmark?) and serial number.

If true, that's what you call 'turning a frown upside down'.

i just saw the old grizzly-15 and was going to mention i didn't like the logo. if you look at the cut and relief on them on the new ones, it makes sense. they took the bear and model out. haha

for sure, it wasn't designed this way. if someone were to have thought up this design, they should have done it on both sides. instead, the they did it to cut out the old logo and markings.

i'll post a pic of my cut LAR OLLs once i get them.

They call it "skeletonized LAR lower receiver". It's pretty cool.:)

I don't think they cut the GRIZ out of the rcvr......more likely someone else's, no their in house brand.......
