Pardon my ignorance but:

Are the PTR91 receivers the best OLL in the market for the 91 platform?
Can this still be had in CA?
Where's the best place to get them?
What's the going price on them?

I maybe opening a can of worms here but CA built 91 or AR10? Why?

Thanks for all your help! :D

Yes
Yes
Where are you?
$300+

The AR10 can be built with minimal tools, the PTR stuff needs a gun smith.

Thanks for the reply 6172crew!

I'm in Azusa/ Glendora area. Gunrunner in Duarte is about 5-10 minutes away.

I think they will do the receivers, did you ask them yet?

bright spot pawn seems to be one of the best around from what I hear.

Call cold war shooters and ask them who is on file in your area, I think they have them in stock.

PTR receivers are TOUGH to find right now. POF is out, last I checked, CWS was out.

Unless you already have a G3 parts kit and you can weld, know someone who welds, or plan on sending it out, you are better off buying a complete PTR91 rifle.

Metroshot is getting some in shortly.

Thanks for the info rorschach!

Got another member asking $310 for it (although I know the POF has them for $250) so I might just go for it but still unsure as to where to send it out. Any well respected local gunsmith that you can suggest?

Thanks for all your patience!

Do ya happen to know what Metroshot's asking price is for a PTR91?

Thanks for all your patience!

I can recommend Jayson at Investment Grade Firearms (http://www.investmentgradefirearms.com/), and Mark Galla "Big 50 (http://www.big50hk.com/)"

Some other HK smiths that have not done any work for me, but come highly recommended by others on HKpro are Ralph at RDTS (http://www.rdts.com/) and Mark "Gunplumber" Graham at Arizona Response Systems (http://www.arizonaresponsesystems.com/).

All these guys are in AZ, I dont know any local cats that specialize in HK work.

My buddy sent his PTR91 off to IGF to have it built and it took 6 months (he knew that going in) and the magazine seems to have issue going in and out.(somthing about the paddle mag release.)...does the PTRs from JLD even have a paddle mag release?

Other than that it came out nice, maybe he didnt worry about it because he thought it was a fixed mag setup but my buddy went gripless and hes a little bummed about it.

Wow thats a bummer. He should send it back, I'm sure Jayson would repair it if it's not right. He has a good reputation and I'm sure he would like to keep it.

PTR's dont come with paddle mag release from the factory, but Vector .223 receivers do.

Got Stuff?

My Vector V-51 also has a paddle mag release and no issues using genuine HK mags.
