I Am new to guns in general, i have been to the range a few times but now i am thinking about buying. I have a few questions about the type of gun i am looking at.

First the kind of handgun i am looking at is a Sig P220 preferably one that has been made in the past 5 years. Do they only make the p220 .45 acp in single/double action? Is this gun even legal in California Alameda county? If it is legal any good places to buy in CA, Alameda county? Can i purchase a gun online and have it shipped to CA? What are the rules when it comes to ordering legal firearms online?

Check the list of approved Kalifornia guns. http://certguns.doj.ca.gov/
Any handgun you purchase must go through a California based FFL which will increase the cost if you order it online. State law trumps local law, so if it is on the California approved list you can buy/posess it in any city or county. As far as I know the P220 only comes in single/double action. It is an excellent gun. Of the guns I have my P220 and G30 shoot the best for me. Some days one, some days the other.

Welcome to Calguns. An FFL can only charge $25 for a DROS if they sell the gun or $35 if it is a PPT. FFL's can charge whatever they like to receive a gun from another FFL, in addition to the DROS fees. That is why it is important to know the total costs an FFL will charge to receive a gun and DROS it. It is not uncommon for this method to be more expensive then just buying the gun locally from a dealer's stock.

Welcome to the club. I agree, buy here. Importing, a handgun especially, is just begging to be raked over the barrel.

The Sig P220 comes in Single Action Only, here (http://www.sigsauer.com/CatalogProductDetails/p220-sao.aspx). It also comes in DAK (which is basically SIG's version of Double Action Only), here (http://www.sigsauer.com/CatalogProductDetails/p220-dak.aspx). I believe the DAK is on the safe list, not sure about the SAO. Good luck on your search and welcome aboard.

J&R Sports Supply in Livermore is a nice place to buy. Valkyrie Arms sells a lot of SSEs (allows you to bypass the roster) if you're looking for that.

very good advise. you want to know total cost at both ends of the deal when considering an online/internet transaction... before making the purchase.

Welcome aboard. Keep in mind here (meaning here at CalGuns.net) many folks don't look for questions in the new-people areas. Have a look in the general or handgun sub areas. There is also a sticky thread that explains many of the TLAs (that'd be Three Letter Acronyms, lol).
