There is a small gap between the upper and lower half of the handguard on my CMMG upper. Is this normal?

I tried punching out the pins on the front sight post to reasinstall the hanguard but was having trouble getting the pins out. I am thinking about just leaving it the way it is.

Yeah, yeah. I probably deserve it. I got bad info from a friend who I thought knew what he was talking about. Anyway I losened the delta ring and fixed it.

Two fundamental rules of AR-dom:

- Never remove the front-sight/gas block.

- Never try to bend a gas tube.

Not my fault but this one can really screw your upper! :(

Could I have potentially damaged my AR by taking off the front sight, or would it have just been a pain in the *** to try and put back on?

Putting gas blocks back on requires good alignment, and new taper pins. (Don't reuse the existing removed ones).

Even gunsmiths mangle gas block installs - slight misalignments with gas port hole on bbl can result in reduced gas flow, leading to cycling problems, etc.

This is why the military does not muck with FS/gas blocks. If the gas block needs changing, the whole barrel gets changed out as a unit; replacement barrels are shipped complete with front-sight/gas block assys.
