i think it took me 3.5 hours.

i didnt have a vice grip, no thin plier, and a weak power drill

the most frustrating part was the drilling because it was barely shaving off the metal and reisntalling the bolt hold open spring

i think it would probably take me 1.5 - 2 hours if i had the proper tools

im getting a Saiga 7.62 in a few months, so i plan to be prepared this time.

Sweet Saiga 12!

I was actually just looking at your Maurader kit over on rimfirecentral. I just picked up my 10/22 and ordered up that same kit.

thanks.
i was debating whether i should finish up the S12 by buying the conversion kit for the S12 or buy the 10/22. im happy that i actually finished it.

You made a good choice. The Saiga 12 is one of my favorite shotguns, and its high on my list of next purchases.

:drool5: Saiga-12 :drool5: Man I can't wait to pick one up :drool5:

i shot it for the first time at Firing Line in Northridge and it drew a crowd. Even the range master was suprised about how i got a saiga 12. he totally thought it was illegal until i showed him the bullet button.

Sweet. I'm going to try to convert mine. I think I have the same rotary tool you got there. I am trying to add the recoil buffer, but cant figure out how to take off the second spring????Know how?

defcon
01-26-2012, 1:33 PM
which 2nd spring?

go to http://forum.saiga-12.com/

hefedehefe
01-26-2012, 1:44 PM
went there and couldnt find anything. there are two springs on the rod with a plate/spacer on the s12

defcon
01-26-2012, 3:22 PM
the spacer i think youre referring to is the open bolt holder. theres a axis retaining spring that controls that. is that the one youre talking about?

theres also another spring that goes on the left side of the receiver which is called the shepherds crook. this is used to keep the retaining pins in place from falling out.

hefedehefe
01-26-2012, 3:24 PM
I dont think so. I will post pics when I get home

From what I can tell, you have to knock out the small retaining pin that keeps the recoil spring guide in place. Do you have the simple blue plastic-ish buffer? The one I have just sits in place. There's a hole in the middle I put the plunger and spring guide through. I don't have to disassemble any of the recoil assembly.

I got one of these things, so it looks like I'm going to have to modify the buffer or pop out that pin

Saiga 12 looks awesome. I'd dump 2 of the grips to clean it up but hey its your gun and you are having a blast which is all that matters. Saiga 12 will definitely be my 2nd shotgun but I wanted an all around first so I got a Mossberg 930 SPX and the field barrel for clays. My folks live in Simi Valley would love to meet up with you at a range sometime to check your Saiga out in person!:)

I would check out the stubby grips. they replace the need for the AFG also if you get one of the thicker shaped ones like the tapco. Really dug it on my AK.
