Pretty much. I don't see many NRA supporters in Berkeley. I may be one of the three people to attend if it were held at Cal.

just an FYI, Sandy is a she, the first female president of the NRA actually.
Also, I would bet dollars to donuts that the only reason she is speaking at Stanford is because she is an alumna.
I wish I could make it, it would be nice to hear what she has to say. Even though I doubt a lot of 2A talk will be held. Probably a lot of "feel good" breaking the glass ceiling stuff. Stanford seems to "guide" their speakers' topics that way...

The recruiting officers at UCLA used to spook me, but that was because I was fresh out of Ft Benning and the sight of officer's rank insignia still scared the **** out of me.

Thought I would chime in, for once.
You'd be surprised by the student balance at Stanford. I know, I went there (albeit in the early '90's). For the most part, the students tend to be more lefty (as most colleges are). But Stanford, unlike Cal, gets students from around the country rather than just California. The guys I knew freshman year included: a Navy ROTC guy from Montana who ended up in the SEALS; my roommate, a hunter from Ohio; my other roommate, from the eastern part of Washington -- a guitar strumming, far-eastern religion seeking, hippie like his parents -- who would shoot themselves wild game because it was "organic and free range" and who liked debating with me the difference in ballistics between 30/06 and .308; a self-described Texas gun nut who would take his lifted truck muddin' in Lake Lag after rainstorms but before they filled it with water for windsurfing in the spring; and a few others who were similarly like-minded.
While there still are a quite a few antis there, the politics at Stanford are more evenly divided than at Cal. And you were never quite sure where people were coming from.
Then, there was the summer I spent at UCLA. We went to the Beverly Hills Gun Range (not located in Beverly Hills) for a dorm outing. The Japanese exchange students LOVED it. Don't know if that would happen during the regular year.
Stanford is NOT Berkeley!

I tend to agree. After a 2 years MA program living on campus, Stanford was by far more evenly distributed. SamIAm, do you get the Stanford Alumni magazine? Over a year or ago there was a large article on firearm ownership in America. I forgot who was interviewed but it was definitely pro-firearm. Commentary by alumni in the following months edition was mixed from: " I can't believe this @#$! was published in such a distinguished alumni journal!" to " It's about time someone talked sensibly about gun ownership in America". I'll try and find the article and post it. Good stuff.
+1 for stanford isn't berkley. There is definately a vocal right wing side to stanford (It has the Hoover Institute after all), and the unlike Berkley are accepted - you will not get your windows smashed in for having a Bush sticker...
There is also a squared away bunch of ROTC cadets - though they have to go to San Jose, SCU and (ironically) Berkley to do their stuff.
IIRC Jeff Cooper was a Stanford alumni.
I do know some Stanford Students are trying to start up a gun club too...
I have no doubt someone will make a fuss tonight, but the fact she's speaking at Stanford is a good reflection on Stanford IMHO.

I only wish I could have gone. :(

Condi Rice is also Stanford Alumni, and was a professor there for some time, if I recall correctly.
The Peninsula has a large share of liberals, but there are a lot of conservatives here as well.

Condi was dean of students and I live on the Peninsula. Remember that lots of tech folks are quite libertarian. Gramma - get your butt up to Silicon Valley. The real downloadable music company would have told you that you were a firearms slacker...
I digress. I can't go tonight (long story why.) Can someone post a couple of thoughts if they do attend?

Ahhh, it warms my heart to see her arms drapped over that 1919a4 and surrounded by a enviable arsenal...:D :D :D
Well just came back from the talk/lecture - was impressed - she as she is a good speaker. As expected there were one or two weird questions raised, but no heckling (for those of you there, I had no idea what the girl who asked the second question was going on about). I'm actually surprised there was no heckling - after talking to one of the students, supposedly a mass email went around the students encouraging them to come protest against the NRA. Guess that didn't work out. I noticed quite a few pro-gun people in the crowd including students- interesting given the fact they are in the middle of midterms.
I guess what is interesting to me is how she approached the topic using the First Amendment as segway into the second Amendment. Caught some people off guard. She didn't talk so much about guns, mainly focusing on our rights and did so quite eloquently - you could tell she went to Stanford/is a lawyer! She defended gun rights very well, being neither combative nor arrogant and educated people on some of the "gun myths" in the media. Good to see so many people interested.
Glad she came.
IIRC when Condi came to visit a year or two back, she arrived via a blackhawk helicopter that landed on one of the Stanford fields.

Argh. Now I wish that I would have gone. I couldn't find an agenda for it anywhere and I thought she was just going to be talking about the 'women breaking the glass ceiling' kind of stuff.

Condi was Provost, a position just below that of the university president. I saw her a couple of times walking to her car, etc when I was there. If BushW had not offered her a job, she would be Stanford president now.

Crap, I gotta pick my mom up at the airport! **** it's only a two minute drive. I may stop by for a minute or two to see all the protesters, if any. I'll wear my AR15.com T-shirt, so I can get some attention from the liberal luvies!!!!!
