Recently moved to my new duty station in Georgia and can finally own the goodies you cant get in Cali!

So I came across this beauty
http://www.57center.com/1.html

Found complete rifles with 4 mags for 900 or upper only for 600ish (1 mag). 50 round mags btw :)

It uses a standard AR lower with a heavier buffer (included), so thats good for parts. Cannot tell if the upper is compatible with AR parts or if the barrel is limited to the company's proprietary ones. (kind of a nub question but can 5.56 and 5.7 barrels work interchangably? Provided I find a 5.56/.223 that isnt drilled for a gas port)

Anybody know the ballistics of the 5.7x25 through various barrel lengths?

A lot of us do some light hunting out here, dont know how well the 40 grain will do against a small boar at 100 yards, hopefully somebody out there knows... Would be a very limiting factor if I cant use it for hunting

Fun gun. I had no problems with mine. Sawed off the top of a 30 rounder and used it as a shell catcher. It's a lil light for a boar. Maybe a 15 lb piglet.:D

Its a novel idea for me to hunt with it, my friends all have giant rifles completey unnecessary for 90% of what they shoot. I didnt want to spend the money on an AR10 and lug it around the backwoods, nor did I want to emulate the AR15/M16 that we have all shot to death...
My interweb research showed this was well put together and combines the good parts of the AR with a solid 21st century design! I just wish it can be more useful than a fun-gun, would like to justify spending 1 grand on something I can at least bring home dinner with

I think the 5.7 is a great caliber but it's one of those that you either love or hate. I'd highly recommend shooting it in any form before going with an AR57. Again, in my opinion the AR57 is cool as heck, but just make sure you try before you buy.

Could you kill a pig with it, sure. Ethically and reliably with civilian 5.7 ammo? Not so much.

Yeah just saw a video of hog hunting with the PS90, took 3 shots (but they were rapid and the hog didnt make it more than 10 feet). So its possible, but [and I dont want to start a war] inhumane...

Shame you cant hunt turkey with a rifle here.

Well I had many pet rabbits as a child so killing one of those is out...and I wont eat squirrel/nor feel the need to shoot them for sport. Love birds, no-go there.

Bummer, wish they made something like this in 5.56 but I understand the reasons why thats impractically impossible (bolt design cant account for a high-powered recoil in its mechanism).

Hmm.....

I have about 300 rounds through mine without a prob and I love it. My wife loves it more so I don't get to shoot it much anymore.
