So some friends and I were at the Orosco Ridge outdoor shooting range (in Ramona) with our abundance of CA-15 black rifles when, for the first time, the ranger/police showed up to check for the $5 outdoor adventure pass. With integrity, we purchased ours before showing up. Low and behold when the LEO walked over after staring down our "arsenal" he checked our pass, did an inspection on our rifles to see we were legal, asked us to be safe and was on his way. The cool thing about this is this is the 4th time I have had a run in with an LEO at a shooting range and the 3 previous were very uninformed about CA legal OLL's and would harass the hell out of us but this officer knew all about the OLL’s. He was at our site for less than three minutes and then moved on to the other groups. I was shocked how many people did not get the day pass. The LEO called for back-up and they were up there for just over two hours writing tickets and searching other shooters vehicles (as it appeared) who were without passes. I was stunned how strict the LEO's were up there with everyone else who had no pass and yet there we were with 8 CA-15's shooting away having a great time all because of a $5 pass.
The moral of this post is that it definitely pays to be legal at all times, not just what you are shooting, but everything associated with it. Thanks to everyone at Calguns.net for this forum. It has kept my friends and I legal at all times.
