Hey all...

I'm a new member, but have been lurking around for about a month. I'm learning a lot reading the threads around here. A little about me.

I'm in Orange County, and have been for 9 years, having moved from South Carolina. Last year, I shot a gun for the first time in about 25 years. Now I'm hooked. I've bought two guns since last year, a GLOCK 23 and a Kimber Pro CDP II. I've received a ton of training with the GLOCK. I have plans on buying a few shotguns and rifles by the end of the year.

However, I'm interested in some firearms that may not be CA legal. Of course, I would never bring them here. My family is looking at some ranch/acreage real estate out of state for recreation purposes, and I might enjoy having some toys that aren't allowed here, for enjoyment elsewhere.

I have a Nevada LLC for reasons other than gun ownership. I've heard from time to time that a CA resident can buy guns in Nevada through a Nevada corporation or LLC legally, as long as they don't bring the guns home...is this true?

Any other factors or considerations on this issue would be greatly appreciated.

BTW, I really enjoy the pic threads...only thing I wish is you guys would tell us what we are looking at, as some of us noobs have no clue what some of these guns are.

In closing, I am having a great time lurking around here. This is a great source of info and I stop in several times per day.

Regards,

I believe that residency has to be established for firearm ownership in any state. The LLC is often used by those interested in purchasing/owning Class III weapons in their state of residence, not for owning in non-resident states. Part-time residency is acceptable as long as it can be substantiated.

Great avatar by the way!

A corporation and its owner are two separate legal entities. The corporation would have to have established residency in Nevada. Presumably, the reason you own a Nevada LLC is because you do business in Nevada which should establish residency.

When a giant corporation needs to purchase firearms, say for their security department, do you think the CEO strolls down to the local gun store? As a practical matter, you would have to find a gun store that will sell to a corporation; maybe some of the guys who work/own gun shops can advise you on that.

The dealer that sells the weapons is a class 3 dealer but the weapons are commonly referred to as title 2 or NFA weapons. Class 3 is merely a SOT class. SOT stands for Special Occupational Taxpayer he pays a fee to be in this business on average 500 per year.
