Folks-

I've got one in pristine condition and I've been searching to no avail for information on this rifle. It says Whitworth and Cal. 458 Win on the barrel, and the receiver says Interarms Alexandria, Va. and Manchester England, as well as what looks like a CZ logo. I got it from my grandfather years ago along with several boxes of ammo. Since I don't plan on going to Africa any time soon, I was considering selling it, but I want to know what it is first.

Do any of you know what it may be and what it's worth? I've seen similar rifles on gunbroker and gunsamerica priced between $650 and $6000, so it appears there's a lot to learn about this rifle.

Photo?
Interarms imported CZ made bolt guns in the 1970's and 80's. They are great guns.

It is a CZ Serbian/Yugoslav rifle finished by Withworth in the UK which if I recall properly was the catch-all name for semi custom rifles done for Interarms by several custom firearms shop in England.

Not CZ. It is ZCZ - Zavodi Crna Zastava at Kragujevac. Depending on the date of manufacture (right side of rear bridge, 2 digit month 2 digit year), various proof marks and exact configuration MAY have been assembled in Manchester England. More pics would help.

Here is mine:

The .458WM is a very versatile cailber. It can be loaded heavy to take ANY living creature on the planet or downloaded to 45/70 ballistics for fun plinking and anywhere in between.

Interarms imported and sold them in the late 70's, early 80's. Yugo made M98's in 375 H&H, 458 Win Mag, etc. Done up with African Big Game, Express rifle features and calibers. I would guess the Whitworth name, and any other English mention are trade marks.

Once again, Calguns delivers! Thanks for your help fellas. It really is a magnificent rifle; I might have to keep it after all. You folks are a wealth of information!

Calguns has ruined me for encyclopedias...

Do not shoot those 500gr loads from the bench! Whitworths are wonderful, fast handling rifles but at about 8.5lbs are a touch light. shoot from offhand using an aggressive stance and the gun pulled in tight. Wisconsin Cartridge Company and Hunting Shack Munitions both make slightly reduced, general purpose loads if you are not set uo to handload. You must post some full pics of the rifle.

Thanks for the warning! After seeing prices of that cartridge in Cabelas, I think I'm gonna sell it. Anyone interested before it goes to the Marketplace?

Those are PREMIUM, Safari Grade cartridges. WCC (http://www.wisconsincartridge.com/productcart/pc/viewPrd.asp?idproduct=98) and HSM (http://store.thehuntingshack.com/458winmag.aspx) both have General Purpose 458WM starting at $2.00/round. Handloading and cast bullets can bring that down substantially once you have brass. Check out Accurate Reloading before you make a decision. It is a rifle you would not likely be able to replace easily or cheaply.

WCC even advertises on Gunbroker. I got 100rds for $210.00 delivered. http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.aspx?Item=257158600 Auction # 257158600
