Hello all. I'm building my first AR Carbine and am torn on 3 16" uppers which fit my budget. Which of these 3 would you all suggest and why? 16" BCM (w/ BCM BCG), 16" Spikes tactical (Spikes BCG) or 16" RRA (w/ BCM BCG)? I'm leaning toward RRA but still not sure.
Thanks!

those are all fine.
BCM is the flavor of the week (perhaps year?) here, so Im sure most will chime in in favor of them.
But assuming similar specs between the three you mentioned, there is no reason to believe one would truly be better than the other.

They are all great choices.....

Have u looked into stag? They are also pretty awesome.

I like all three of them. I'll get the cheapest one that comes with the BCG.

You set on just those uppers? Here's some more relatively inexpensive options for you if you're not...

if you go RRA the cheapest place to get them is ar15sales.com by a-lot.

OP, just curious why you're leaning towards RRA? Personally I went with a BCM mid length. Spikes, Stag, LMT, DD, PSA, DTI, and RifleGear are all pretty good popular options as well.

From your choices, look around at different shops/sites and get the most affordable one as you compare their prices.

I was just about to whine about these not being in stock anywhere I looked, but then the links to AIM Surplus show they have them.

Not for long.......

Having just gone through my first AR build I will say that the decision on an upper felt a little overwhelming. My suggestion would be to decide what details you want-- barrel length, gas system, twist, handgaurd, narrow down the brands you are comfortable with, and then WATCH THE CLASSIFIEDS. There are always great deals popping up there.

Think about it.

Thanks for the suggestions and I appreciate the vendor recommendations as well. As far as cost goes, It looks like I can get a 16" Spikes tactical from JoBoboutfitters for less than $490 with shipping included. (i also like the fact that spikes also includes the buffer)
I was leaning toward RRA because they have the option to have the muzzle break pre-installed vs. me having to do it (or have it done, as I don't have a vice setup)... I'd like the option to go featureless.
I've had a stag build before and it was alright, no real complaints. I'm just thinking that I'd like to do something different for this build. I was also thinking of biting the bullet and building my own Vltor M1A upper... just not sure If I want the added work and to spend the extra cash...

Get the Spikes!

I just ordered a 16" middy from Primary Arms. I like Joebobs a lot-great CS and fast shipping-but their Spikes M4 LE uppers have been "currently on order" for a while. PA just emailed me they have them in stock.

Yes, the Spikes has the ST-T2 heavy buffer included.

It's a toss up between spikes and bcm. I currently own a bcm midlength and love it. I'm on my second build and want to go with a spikes upper but I can't stand the idea of waiting two months for an upper no matter how much cheaper it is .

+1^ I'm in the same boat went with a bcm first. My second and 3rd build I'm going bcm and either DD or LMT or both? Lol can't make up my mind....

RifleGear......it's rebranded Daniel Defense. I have a RifleGear 16" midlength and it's amazing.

Riflegear/Danie Defence is a good choice.

Spikes is a good choice.

Bcm is a good choice.

Its a win win win. There its easy. You can't go wrong with any of them. Pick the one with the features you like best. I went with a Spike's 14.5" lightweight profile with a pinned Dynacomp and love it, but I had to sell it to get this....

I have heard a lot of good things about Palmetto State Armory (supposidly made by the same people that make Spikes uppers) and thier prices are pretty darn good.

Go with a 1/9 barrel. I have been a 1/7 high grade "milspec" kinda guy for the past 3 years. Thousands of $$ later..... I'm realizing that 1/9 is the ticket for 55gr-62gr ammo.... period. I'm de-barreling an FN upper right now and replacing the barrel with a RRA 16" lightweight profile midlength gas barrel. It will be a tack driver for the ammo I shoot.

BCM.

RRA is good but a little over priced IMO. Spikes is good but people will jump on a BCM on the classifieds way faster than a spikes. Either way you won't lose but BCM is a better bet right now.

Check out DD too.

No offense to anyone, but for as many people that down talk BCM and their products on here, the above statement is true.

Out of the ones you selected, BCM for the win. You can't go wrong with BCM. They have truly earned their reputation.

personally, if I can't have a LWRC (which is simply awesome but $$$$), DD works for me. My next AR tho is an LWRC pistol :)

If you can wait about 4 more weeks I suggest Armalite. Every year after Thanksgiving they have their end of year clearance sales and there are some fantastic deals. Two years ago I got my Armalite upper for $400

+1

Stag now offers a "plus package" for 75$ extra and you get upgraded 4150 steel chrome lined barrel, m4 feed ramps, upgraded extractor spring, individually MP & HP tested bolt, staked full auto BCG ect ect. Basically all the same specs as the DD/rifle gear upper and other big names, but still 60$ cheaper then sone of the lower priced big name brands if your on a budget. I have an old stag that doesn't have any of the good upgrades and that thing still kicks butt. Just something to look at.
