Last thing I need is a new hobby but now Im really havin a time with refinishing stocks. It truly is an art form. Had a blast with my first test subject, my shotty Norinco SKS. Stupid me forgot a before pic though.

Method:
Sanded from 60-220 grit paper

Rubbed Boiled Linseed oil all over the stock till it was warm with friction. Baked in sun from 230-530 pm every day, then hung dry in garage till 2:30 the next day. At about coat five, I took 0000 steel wool and rubbed it all down, took a damp towel and wiped it, baked another day, then repeated BLO steps about 5 more times.

Sanded:

Also replaced the handgaurd with a steel ventilated one. Really like that look much more. Thanks for everyone's help! Anyone else got some of their own finishes they wanna show off?

Love everything but the heat shield. That it could do without IMO.

ya...I think it makes it look MEANER :D. I do need to finish the handgaurd now, just in case I want to switch back and forth. Hopefully I get the same finish color/look though.

Well it doesn't look BAD, I just prefer the stock look on those. I'm kind of an SKS purist.

I love it. Great job!

I'm not sure what I think about the top handguard. It definitely makes it look meaner though.

Ya I get that. I got like that with Nagants after I ruined an M44 by bubbaing it. This was a cheap cruddy Narinco that I bought for 250 bucks a couple years ago and I wanted to try and polish it up a bit without ruining it like I did the M44. It didnt have all matching numbers anyways so I just replaced a few parts and refinished it. fun project.

I was thinking about what one would charge to do this. What would someone want to pay? To me it seems like the time into it would cost as much as a mosin itself.
