Just read an article on the new Beretta BU9 Nano and was wondering if anyone was aware if Beretta will be submitting this pistol for the ludicrous California DOJ Roster process.

The features and pricing of this pistol are very attractive, but I don't want to get my hopes up.

I honestly doubt Beretta will submit to the CalDOJ. All their handguns are grandfathered in. I'm interested in it none the less.

No magazine disconnect means no go in CA.

Means single shot exemption.

I'm one of the "chosen ones", so the roster means nothing to me. It's ugly as $H1T, but if it has a trigger like a Glock & is similar in size to my PM9, I'd sell the Kahr in a heartbeat. The ONLY thing I don't like about the Kahr is the long reset, it always takes me a while to get used to that during rapid fire drills.

Let Beretta get the kinks out before you buy one.

Just my 2 cents.

@jbravo70 It is currently admitted for LE backup use. We will submit to CA for approval to civilian market in the future.

So basically not immediately.. and as another poster said.. probably not without some modification.

Aren`t they owned by the same parent company or something like that, I think Bersa is too?

Ripped off? Maybe it's just me - but *all* the new guns look like combinations of a Glock plus a Sig 226 (with maybe a little Ruger P89 thrown in)...

Nope.

Beretta and Taurus are two different companies.

In the 1980, Taurus bought the Beretta factory in Brazil which also included the tooling/dies/plans for several Beretta firearms. Taurus then used those to make knock-offs of the Beretta firearms.

The Beretta Holding Group owns/operates Beretta, Benelli, Franchi, SAKO, Stoeger, Tikka and Uberti.

I think Bersa is an independent company based in Argentina:

The US importer is Eagle Imports in New Jersey:

I don't see a connection between Bersa and Beretta or Taurus.

Yeah, Taurus started off with the Beretta tooling and made Berettas branded as their own. In the past few years though, especially, they have been innovating at a pretty good clip. The Judge is a great example. Don't forget that S&W, a company that numbers its revolvers, called their Judge knockoff the "Governor."

The first thing that occurred to me when I saw the Beretta Nano was how much it looked like the Taurus Slim. The cut in the slide is sure somethin'

I think the Beretta sounds really promising though. They spend a lot more money and time doing R&D and perfecting products before releasing them than a lot of companies. For instance, Ruger having issues every time it releases a new semi-auto compact or sub compact handgun... rushing to market and ending up with recalls and unreliable guns that they issue fixes for. This Nano will probably be a very strong contender and, I would guess, one of the very most reliable guns of this size. I will definitely consider it.

Exactly. Taurus is well know for using/honoring/stealing beretta's designs. Taurus' Slim line did come out first so either they had advanced knowledge from an insider of what was in Beretta's pipeline and beat them to market or Beretta took features from Taurus. Either way, they look too similar for it to be a coincident.

They probably stole that line from another pistol anyways. Just gotta look for it.

Do you guys really see that much difference between ANY of these little wonder-9s? I'm just not getting why the Beretta is being singled out as a rip-off...

Not ripping on anyone. When I first saw the BU9 I thought it was the Slim. The gun industry is just as bad as the auto industry. They all take looks and features of their competitors. I have no problem with it, more options for us. Lets be thankful Apple is not making firearms because they would sue every MFG that shot a round projectile out a tube.

LOL - Apple would design their own ammo, charge 2X the price for it, and sue any other gun maker that tried to produce a gun that used it. Every 2 years, they would design new ammo, stop making the old ammo and make you buy a new gun. But, the Apple guns would be so cool looking that anyone who didn't have the latest one would be considered a loser... :p
