So I've heard that some 223's can't handle 5.56, is this true? I have a Ruger NO.3 in 223, can I shot 5.56 in it?

a 5.56 chambered gun can shoot .223
a .223 chambered gun cannot shoot 5.56
the difference is mainly in the case neck

The difference is in the pressure generated by the loading of the two rounds. 5.56 is much hotter with a higher pressure generated.

I wouldn't. But if I had a Mauser in .223 I wouldn't fear it (with 55gr or less) bullets so I was not crowding the lands.

FWIW I have been using 5.56 in my .223 bolt action for decades with no problems.

Call Ruger and ask. Why rely on internet answers when you can get a real answer just by calling?
