What are your recommendations for .45 ACP ammo in terms of cleanest burning..less fouling?

Fourty-five + all factory ammo = dirty gun. Nothing you can do about it, just wipe it down when it gets dirty. If you want clean burning ammo, you need to roll your own.

When I was shooting factory ammo, small primer Federal shot the cleanest. Small primer and plated bullet makes for a cleaner burn.

Clay's powder with FMJ is VERY clean.

Factory ammo, I'm not sure. All seem fairly dirty to me.

Shooting your gun is going to get it dirty. Clean after every range trip and you will be fine :) Are you having cycling issues due to fouling? If so, there is probably another reason. Modern handguns should be able to continue shooting when dirty (to a certain extent) with no failures.

I don't know that I'd recommend it, but WinKleen & some others leave fired brass that's downright shiny on the inside. I know that some of it is loaded in Speer brass. Next time you're at the range look around.

The sooty brass with scorches down the outside is just some of my handloads that I missed when policing. ;)

Whatever SPEER is using is ridiculously clean. You can pretty much pick up there brass, resize it and load it without tumbling. I know using WIN 231 and loading hot (6.1+ grains under a 185g XTP) I get very clean brass afterwards. Not so much with 5.0 for my target loads.

Also, the RWS in 9mm 124g and 38 Special have both burned very clean for me also, no experience with it in .45 though.

Winchester WinClean is the only one I know of. It has a brass enclosed case so you're not blasting/burning the lead out the back of the bullet. I've shot it before. Works just as well as their other target ammo, but it does have a premium price tag.

All premium ammo is going to be the cleanest burning...with a premium price tag.

I've found CCI Blazer to be very clean for off the shelf ammo, W.W. white box is one of the worst.

FWIW all the Hornady I've shot has been squeaky clean :)
