View Full Version : .223/5.56 Under $6 Per Box - Current Deals - New Manufacture Brass Case Ammo Only

Hey guys,

I'm always looking for great deals on .223 or 5.56 ammo and thought I would be a good idea to start a thread we could refer back to on a regular basis to help find the current best deal.

I don't like shooting reloads and I don't want to shoot russian steel cased ammo so I'd like to make this a "new brass cased ammo only" thread if you guys are cool with that.

So, if you found a good deal on .223 or 5.56, please post it here. Thanks.

Shipping ends up being the deciding factor for me. Lots of places have competitive pricing on the ammo itself but I get killed in the shipping costs once I price it out in many cases.

Don't have a deal to offer but thought I would post this. Sort of a direction of trends...

One of the major vendors (I didn't get their name, but it wasn't Miwall) at the Phoenix shot show was selling PMC 55 grain standard black box for $259/ 1000rds. Miwall's price was $289 for the same stuff.

Seems like prices are coming down pretty well.

This thread is from December of last year, when prices were still normal.

Don't worry, you got yourself a good deal at Palmetto, relatively speaking.

Looks like they will, exept within the City of Los Angeles. There are many communities within the City. I'm not sure how much of the City falls in the San Fernando Valley.

or call it "right around $6"...
or just wait it out.

Just a hair over $6 not "new manufacture" but it is brass so 1 out of 3 criteria, I guess

Thanks for the info guys. What is the general consensus with ammo prices right now? Going up and staying up? Short term shortage right now that will end soon? Trying to decide if I should stock up or wait. Thanks.

bender152
07-12-2012, 8:51 AM
There was a spike in prices and some panic buying happening one to two months ago, but that seems to have calmed. Ammo was selling for $350 - $380 per case plus shipping back then.

Currently, you can find ammo for $300 - $350 plus shipping.

In 2010/2011, a decent deal on .223/5.56 ammo would have been $300 shipped. So $325 shipped isn't too far off from that.

IMHO, I don't think ammo will be going down in price any time soon, not until 2013 at the earliest.

Glad I grabbed 5k of PMC back in the Spring when it was $279.00 per 1k. I think I am at the threshold right now, it just seems too much to pay .34 to .38 per round for 5.56 ammo, not worth it. Shooting my Mosin a lot more than my ARs these days.

http://palmettostatearmory.com/index.php/ammunition/rifle-ammunition/223-5-56/mfs-223-55gr-fmj-zinc-plated.html

5.20 per box of 20 = 0.26 per round = 259.98 per 1k delivered!

Anybody try this stuff? I ordered 2k rounds. Figured I'd give it a good try...

I read it's a little dirty but shoots well and is better than the coated steel cases.

FYI, this stuff is apparently magnetic so don't take it to your local range. I shoot in the desert.

Thanks for link and thank you to everyone else for all your input.

While I violated my own rules about posting "Brass Cased Ammo Only", I would like to vote that we get back on track of keeping this thread brass only.

We all know there is steel cased stuff out there for much cheaper but I simply refuse to shoot coated steel in my guns. I will give the zinc plated stuff a try but I just don't want to mess with the coated stuff. ;)

they are definitely running behind on shipping (totally understandable with the free shipping promo and continued various discounts)...

Initially I was receiving product about 10 from date of order... today I got shipment for order placed a little over two weeks ago and I have two pending orders from 7/7 and 7/9.

I've been 100% satisfied with everything I've been getting from PSA... and their CS is awesome! Knowing I'm not being Jack Ross'd, I don't mind the wait (in fact, I keep ordering :o).

I refuse to pay these outrageous prices for 223, I guess I'm too used to picking up cases of 223 right around 10 cents per round back in the day, used to buy Norinco brass/ boxer primed 223 all day for $160 for 1600 rds/case at Turner's and the Great Western Gun Shows, good I stocked up back then and sitting on 10K or so.:D
