Pistol grip question

So since I cannot have a centerfire rifle, which is semi auto, with a pistol grip that protrudes below the trigger, Can I just fire the rifle upside down? This would make the pistol grip above the trigger! :D

How about you buy a weaver rail mounted pistol grip and stick it on the top rail on a flattop AR. Then shoot it upside down. Remember to put a big warning label on the side stating in bold yellow letters "WARNING, TURNING RIGHTSIDE UP IS A FELONY"

This was actually discussed privately by an NRA lawyer and a couple of others at the Aug 16 meeting in a halfway-not-so-joking manner.

Actually I have given a grip off to the side some serious thought. Either parallel to the receiver or sticking out sideways. The first problem I have is that there is still a pistol style grasp and part of it still attaches below the action in either way. My parallel grip idea attaches at the bottom and attaches to the rail on the top of a flattop. I thought of a few different trigger mechanisms including linkage that was operated with a thumb button. I figured that this was probably more hassle than it was worth.

It doesn't protrude below the action...

I've been pondering that for a bit, and I think a horizontally mounted ~2” ball on a post would be the most ergonomic. Maybe more of an old door handle profile, slightly flattened and knurled along the equator. If I had a railed forend on one of my rifles, I probably would have okie rigged something by now...

I used to have a Tippman SMG-60 full auto paintgun.

It had a box magazine hanging out the left side, and there were situations I'd use it rather than the foregrip.

That was one of my ideas but it still attaches in the same place which is below the action and protrudes. The law does not state which direction it has to protrude below the action so I figured that this would be grey at best.

If you make a pistol grip that attaches to the receiver in the same place as a standard one but sticks out to the side, it is still attached below the action and it still sticks out to the side below the action level. The law does not specifiy which direction below the action it can/can not stick out. That is why I said I thought this was a grey area. I guess you could try it and see where the web of the hand was and all of that stuff… I just don’t know it would fly.
