I prefer post war, through model number series blue steel... Earlier stainless is OK, hammer mounted firing pins....

I am not interested in Victory models.

I am in the LA area, most of So Cal is OK...

Ade's Gun shop in Orange had an early 70's Nickel 19-4 (P&R) with 6 inch barrel. Don't know the price.

Do you know if it is on consignment? If not he has to sell it out of state....

I'll have to give him a call.... If the price is right, I'll buy a nickel gun, but I prefer blue...

if you two are the only ones looking for older S&W's it might be a deal, I just scored a nice pre-15 in one of your "territories"

I don't know if you crossed into my zone, but we'll cut you some slack this time.... Consider yourself scolded....

Now that I've gotten that out of the way, is it nice? What serial number (only part if you like). I have a Combat Masterpiece (ser no K107xxx), and a model 15-3…

The workmanship is nice isn’t it?

I haven't had a chance to pick it up yet but the serial number puts it at 1952,

It is nice except for a small nick below the cylinder on the left side of the frame. It comes with a period flap holster.

The last S&W I bought was a circa 1956, 1955 target complete with "cokes"

I am still looking for a nice triple lock or RM though.

I've been on a post-war, pre Model 10 kick myself. Picking up a very nice blue 4" M&P on Thursday; it has the Murcheson era grips though and the prices of vintage 'diamond center' grips are really creeping up. The Book says it's circa 1945.
And then last night I DROS'd a 1948 4" nickel M&P. Now nickel is definitely not my style, but the price was right and for a 5 screw, minty M&P with the original gold cardboard box. Unfortunately this one has the wrong grips as well.

The quest continues.

I have several pre model 10's too... You have to admire these very simple basic revolvers that shoot so well...

It's just something, a 50 year old gun, load it with wad cutters and shoot jagged one hole groups all day long....

I'd love to have a 1955 target.... or a 25-2..

The price for Triple locks has gone through the roof... i don't know if I'll ever buy one...

So would this pre model 10 be considered minty? serial number puts it at 1929 no box though

No. In fact it looks unsafe. I would be more than happy to relieve you of the burden of owning that horribly unsafe, beat down, rattly old revolver.

I'm nice that way.

Seriously, that's beautiful. 5" barrel? Relatively rare. Or is it a 6" And with the proper grips.
Very nice.

kurac
02-27-2007, 4:06 PM
It would be a 6" with the properly numbered grips. Not even a line around the cylinder when I got it, there is a some wear on the muzzle from sliding around in the sock drawer, or maybe it was the nightstand drawer. It may have only been test fired when I got ahold of it. I wish all of my guns could shoot as nice as this one.

I ran into a 1950 target in .45ACP maybe 5 months ago, it was a little too beat up for me yet it only lasted about 2 weeks at $850. If it were nicer it would have been a nice piece and the first one I have ever seen in person.

Yes it is very nice. Is it a refinish? I have a prewar 38/44 outdoorsman with a star stamped on the frame after the serial no. it was a factory refinish and has the same high gloss blue...

Well, it's official. This 1946 3rd model .44 HE is now at Ade's. Less than 1,500 of these were made & this was one of 50 shipped to the Washington State Patrol. Letter included.

Call Ade for details and price as it officially belongs to him.
