I am an out of state military member & I have just traded my brother rifles for the M1 Garand my father gave to him. Now I was under the understanding that M1s were allowed in the Communist State of California. But I just saw a web site that offered a California Legal M1. What is the deal, are they or aren't they?
Somebody please help.

Are you sure it wasn't a M1A? M1 Garands do not have detachable mags so you can have evil features if you want. In stock configuration the M1 is completely featureless.

big 5 has them for 650. curio and relic qualified so in stock configuration you are good to go

M1 Garands are completely legal, as long as they're basically in stock form. The M1A (commercial variant of the M14) is legal in California, but care must be taken to be sure that it's in a legal configuration because it is very easy to put into a configuration that is NOT legal for California.

Actual Garands are MUCH more difficult to put into a configuration that is not legal for sale/possession in California.

That CA legal M1 was most likely an M1A. The flash suppressor is removed and a muzzle brake is put on, and it is supplied with a 10 round magazine. That makes it CA legal in its basic form.

Join a club and buy through the CMP (www.odcmp.org). I got the best quality from them for both my M1 and my M1 Carbine.

Getting it delivered to your front door is so cool!
