Don't get a serpa unless you want to shoot your leg.

Why do you say that? Is it better to just get the standard (non-Serpa) holster from Blackhawk?

thats great, tell them next time to have trigger discipline when drawing from a holster. this issue has been beat to death from the intranet to the intarweb. it is not a fault of the holster, but the fault of the operator. period.

How many countless people draw from a Serpa daily and don't shoot themselves? It's a non-existant problem that people love to create. Plus he wants it for a 1911. Given he carries with the safety on, as it was intended to be, he wouldn't shoot himself.

Nice to know, TROLLS are still alive and active.

I already have the Thigh Rig holster for my Sig 226 in Coyote Tan.
Now i want the same color holster for my full size 1911 without buying a complete thigh rig. Seems if I want the holster by itself, it only comes in Black. Unless someone can point me in the right direction.

I should also clarify, I have one of those Universal mounts on my thigh & chest rig.

1911 holsters only come in a few colors from blackhawk. if you find coyote let me know.

seriously, unless the holster is the one pulling the trigger, then its the shooters fault, i find that the serpa actually gives me better trigger discipline, im so used to drawing from my serpa and leaving my finger off the trigger until im ready to shoot, i hold all my guns with more discipline than before.

In many cases, it is the users fault when they insert their booger finger too early... BUT..

I have personally seen someone go prone with their pistol and then come back up and a piece of sand or gravel gets lodged into the release mechanism and the pistol is then locked in place. Happened to a friend of mine shooting out in the desert. I later went home and saw similar accounts online.

I have two Ready Tactical Kydex holsters from Chris Patty at cpwsa.com. They work great for my G34 and my STI 2011. I prefer them over the Blade tech, but you can't go wrong with either.

Forget the blade tech. Get some training! Or a great trauma kit.

Don'y buy a SERPA. Get something worth your time and money like Safariland, Bladetech, etc.

http://militarytimes.com/blogs/gearscout/2011/09/24/we-have-our-own-look-at-the-serpa/

But, of course all of the Blackhawk/SERPA fan boys are going to start going off about how "it's just operator error". Believe whatever you want, good luck to you.

So are you saying in order to use a Serpa you need a gun with a safety

HA HA thanks for that that's the hardest I laughed in a long time I've never been called a troll before. I didn't mean to crap on your thread akjunkie. Even if you didn't care about the possibility of shooting your leg while doing a draw under some kind of pressure. The serpa still could jam up and lock your gun in the holster if you hit the dirt. I'm sorry that you think I crapped your thread it's just my opinion and lots of top training schools too.

I could embed some videos of people shooting themselves drawing from a Serpa but there's to much cussing after they shoot themselves so this post would be deleted. The point I'm trying to make is why Serpa when there are so many other options. I wouldn't carry one unless I sewed some inserts by my legs so I could put some level 3A in there but what the hell this is America you'll do what you want.

Absolutely not. I use one daily without a safety. Me and about quite a few others. Think of all the police with Glocks and Serpas. Many government agencies use Serpa holsters and don't have issues. I was merely saying if he uses it with a 1911 it's even more idiot proof.

as far as the whole top schools thing goes. those schools stopped allowing serpas because the people they were teaching werent ready to use one (see; not trained enough to keep their finger out of the trigger). if you could show you were advanced enough, most let you use it.

That DEA agent that shot himself in the foot with his "Foh-Tee", Glock 22 in front of a classroom full of kids. Was he using a Serpa Holster? Or just bad safety etiquette?
