Just posting this for serendipity's sake...I had never heard of a S&W Model 45 until today. Basically an M&P revolver in .22LR. Neat!

(and,no, I have nothing to do with the auction. Just like finding out about guns I never knew about.)

I need a model 45 pretty bad. I would trade just about any gun in my collection for one.

It has become my number 1 grail gun.

Wow, now there's a unicorn you don't see everyday. Rare indeed.

The bidding starts at $1850!

I have a Model 48-4 (22 magnum) but didn't even know about the Model 45.

So the question is why the Post Office needed to issue a .22LR revolver?

It was not that long ago that a lot of postmen carried as part of their regular work. The gun was made for training purposes (it's the exact same gun as the model 10 in the 38 spl) as 22lr is much cheaper to shoot than centerfire. Some were also used by the coast guard for the same reasons
