Have been looking at a few rifles here on CALGUNS private firearms sales, and was wondering what fee's i'd be paying to transfer a rifle, and do they charge sales tax on a used firearm?
Thanks
Robert

no sales tax, $35.00 transfer fee (assuming it's a face to face transfer).

Thanks for the quick reply/yes it would be a face to face transfer, is there also a fee for a background check or is that included in the transfer fee?

Should only be a $25 dros fee $10 for the ffl. You also may need to purchase a new lock and bring a receipt, buy the lock from the ffl, or sign a safe affidavit. Also be careful because there are some places that will charge extra fees and say they are handling, storage charges. Those are illegal from my understanding.

$35 all inclusive. That is the max total allowed by state law.
The background check fee is really only $19 or something like that, plus some other stuff that adds up to $25, then the FFL is allowed to charge up to $10 for his time.

Same for a pistol?

For a pistol you'll have to have your hsc card, otherwise take the test and pay the $20. Also I've heard that you cant do the safe affidavit so you would have to buy a new lock if that's the case.

Yes. Should be $25 for background check, $10 for the ffl.
